    Summer Camp Assistant to the Cook

    Job Description Summer Position 8 weeks

    We are looking for a team player to help make this experience the best for our students. We are

    hiring an Assistant to the Cook for our students and faculty for summer courses off campus. The

    summer camp program is an important part of the Forestry and Fisheries and Wildlife Curricula and serves to introduce students to many of the concepts and practical field skills, which they will use in later courses and in their professional careers. For many students, the camp experience also is a time of significant personal growth.

    This is a two-way split-shift position. Hours can range from 4:30 or 5:00 am until 6:30 pm

    Monday Friday lunch. Must be flexible with changes in meal times.

    Meals will be served as follows: Monday breakfast through Friday lunch.

    Breakfast 6:30 a.m. 7:00 a.m.

    Lunch 11:30 a.m. 12 noon

    Dinner 5:30 p.m. 6:00 p.m.

    Possible evening snack events once a week.

    Principal duties of the Assistant to the Cook are outlined below. We officially begin on May 10 with a welcome dinner for partial student group and family. The two program group, FWCB and FOR ,

    students also have travel weeks/days. Certain weeks the numbers of meals change. The travel is planned in advance and will be communicated for planning/ordering. We also can host snack events some evenings ice cream social.

    Kitchen Duties:

    1. Meal Planning Support the Menu plan established by the Cook, order supplies. Help provide a

    varied menu of nutritious home cooking ability to take into consideration common allergies.

    We require a protein source at each meal.

    2. Meal prepping and serving meals; some meals will be packaged to-go for field trips. Instructors

    will communicate in advance for these requests.

    3. Plan for weekly guests of the program and other events.

    4. Oversee and prepare salad bar daily a balance of toppings, proteins and vegetarian proteins are required.

    5. Support all tasks insuring kitchen and dining cleanliness maintenance of industrial cooking

    equipment

    6. Support the Cook in maintaining and ensuring all areas and processes are up to code.

    Cleaning Duties:

    1. Supervise students daily and weekly dishwashing and cleaning chores in the kitchen and mess

    hall.

    2. Oversee and maintain kitchen cleanliness We have a contracted cleaning service and the

    Cooks Assistant and Teaching Assistants also have a role in support.

    3. Personal Cabin clean upon move out.

    Deliveries

    1. Support and manage receipt, organization and storage of food and supply deliveries.

    2. When TAs are available, supervise receiving and storing.

    Accommodations

    Private quarters and meals included. Rustic furnished cabin no AC and short walk to restroom. We do not allow pets at camp.
