Hartford City is the county seat of Blackford County. Located in the northeast central portion of the state, the city of approximately 6,000 has a strong legacy of agriculture & manufacturing. The town square is a "living museum" and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Residents enjoy the small-town atmosphere and recreational offerings include four golf courses within ten miles, lakes and reservoirs for boating, fishing and swimming, and three nearby state parks. Hartford City is located close to I-69 and Muncie, IN (home of Ball State University), as well as three other universities within 21 miles. Fort Wayne, the state's second largest city, is an hour's drive from Hartford City.
