    Description

    Summary You will serve as a MATERIALS HANDLER INSPECTOR in the ORDNANCE OPERATIONS DIVISION of NMC CWD DET SEAL BEACH.

    Duties * You will assure the quality and safety of ordnance material and operations as related to the receipt, issue, storage, handling, segregation, renovation, preservation and packing of such items.

    * You will perform receipt and issue inspection of ordnance items and certify them as ready for issue. * You will obtain and maintain inspection and quality certifications.

    * You will construct, place, sheath and install wooden blocks, wedges, bracing structures, partition bulkheads, deck boxes and other staying devices.

    * You will determine the detail locations within storage facilities and assure proper stowage of cargo within vessels per load plan.

    * You will offload and onload ordnance materials from trucks, rail cars, vessels and other conveyances using forklifts, manual and mechanized pallet jacks, side loaders and stacker cranes.

    You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition. * Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required.

    A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test.

    You will be subject to random testing.

    * This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites.

    You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

    * You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

    * This is a bargaining unit position. * You will be required to obtain and maintain explosives, forklift, Ordnance Material Handler, and Harpoon Missile certifications.

    * You will be required to successfully complete safety courses by NAVSEA OP 5, Volume I, including Basics of Naval Explosives Hazard Control; Including AMMO 49, Naval Explosives Safety for Supervisors, Managers and refresher courses as required.

    * You will be required to successfully complete blocking and bracing and basic rigging training.

    * You will be required to successfully complete automated systems training, including optical scanners, barcode label printers, measurement devices, gauges, calibrated and hand tools, and various kinds of power and air-driven equipment.

    Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

    Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
