Respiratory Therapist Position at Advocate Sherman Hospital

Majestic Location: Advocate Sherman Hospital N. Randall Rd, Elgin
Shift: Night Shift (3rd)
Full-Time Equivalent (FTE): .9 (Full-Time)
Compensation Range: $46.60

Summarized Role: This role involves providing and coordinating comprehensive respiratory care. The Respiratory therapist administers respiratory care procedures and modalities following established standards, policies, and procedures. Utilizing evidence-based practices and skilled communication, the therapist leads efforts to ensure the safest patient environment and the best patient experience.

Main Responsibilities:

• Utilizes Respiratory therapy processes to assess patients, using various skills such as pulmonary diagnostics, chest radiograph, hemodynamic values, and laboratory values.
• Operates specialized ventilators in critical and non-critical care settings. Assists physicians with bedside procedures as needed.
• Provides medication treatments and therapies per physician order and/or patient-driven respiratory protocols.
• Educates and instructs patients on the purpose, technique, self-care, goal of therapy, and disease management.
• Facilitates clinical problem-solving and collaborates with other departments for patient management.
• Demonstrates effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution skills.

Required Licensing and Certification:

• Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license issued by the respective state.
• Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) within 12 months OR active Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential issued by the NBRC if received before January 1, 2019.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).

Education Prerequisite:

• Completion of an accredited respiratory care program, with at least an associate degree.

Required Experience:

• No previous experience needed.

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Proficient organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
• Effective decision-making for patient care and equipment application.
• Proficiency in computer skills, utilizing e-mail and electronic medical record systems.
• Excellent communication abilities (written and verbal), listening, and interpersonal skills.
• Proficient in human relation skills, establishing rapport and positive relationships with patients, team members, and physicians.
• Excellent time management skills, ability to multitask, prioritize, and work collaboratively.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

•Operates all necessary equipment.
• Must be capable of handling various physical tasks and lifts according to established requirements.
• Demonstrates safe body mechanics consistently.
