Job Description A psychiatrist is responsible for assessing and treating individuals with mental health conditions, emotional disorders, and behavioral issues using a combination of medical, psychological, and therapeutic techniques to help patients manage and overcome their challenges.
Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations to diagnose mental health disorders.Gather information about patients' medical history, family history, and social background.
Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the patient's condition.
Treatment Planning:
Administer various therapeutic techniques to help patients cope with and manage their mental health conditions.
Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including psychologists and social workers, to provide comprehensive care.
Consult with primary care physicians and specialists to address the broader healthcare needs of patients.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including diagnostic assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes.
Comply with legal and ethical standards related to patient confidentiality and record-keeping.
Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions, treatment options, and coping strategies.
Advocate for the mental health needs of patients within the healthcare system and the community.
Stay informed about the latest developments in psychiatry through ongoing education and training.
Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school.
Completion of a psychiatry residency program.
Board certification in psychiatry.
State medical license.
Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) s.
