    Job Description:

    Budget Title: Instructional Support Assistant (SL-1)

    Salary: $20,000 (part-time 50%, temporary)

    The Sobel Lab of Evolutionary Plant Genetics at Binghamton University's Department of Biological Sciences is seeking a part-time research technician to assist with a variety of lab management tasks. Our research focuses on the traits in natural populations of plants that confer reproductive isolation between diverging taxa, using ecological, genetic, and genomic approaches (see ).

    The lab technician will assist with a variety of tasks including: basic lab management (ordering, inventory monitoring, etc.), supervising undergraduate students, assisting graduate students, data collection and curation, and plant care.

    The technician will be encouraged to develop independent research projects, and will have opportunities to contribute to co-authored scientific publications.

    The position would be ideal for someone who has recently graduated from a bachelor's program in biology, genetics, ecology/evolution, etc., and wants to gain some practical experience prior to applying to graduate programs.

    Requirements:

    Visa sponsorship is not available for this position

    • A Bachelor's degree in biology or related field
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    Preferred:

    • Previous experience collecting and working with biological data is highly preferred (e.g. pipetting, DNA isolation, PCR, gel electrophoresis, spectroscopy, phenotypic measurements, statistical analysis, etc.)
    • Plant care experience is also highly desirable
