    POSITION:
    Preschool Program Specialist (Autism Specialty)


    LOCATION:
    Preschool Department


    SALARY:
    Teacher Salary Scale


    TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:
    12 Months


    REPORTS TO:
    Preschool Coordinator


    JOB GOAL:
    Preschool Program Specialist serves as a crucial part of leadership for the JCPS Preschool Department. This particular focus will be on the Preschool Pyramid Model (PPM) and Family Engagement for JCPS PreK.

    This role works closely with Preschool Coordinator, principals, teachers and other school based staff to improve social emotional development instruction, and improve family engagement of our JCPS PreK stakeholders.

    This person will be responsible for presenting and maintaining fidelity of the compliance and educational services for our Autism populations, best practices (PPM, Conscious Discipline, TEACH, etc), ensuring that we are providing the least restrictive environment for students with Autism.

    Working to support teachers and personnel within our classrooms.

    This position is vital to the success of strong family engagement in JCPS, being that students are just starting their educational career in JCPS.


    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Pass a DCDEE CBC requirements
    • Bilingual (English/Spanish) would be a bonus
    • Experience working with personnel and families
    • Bachelor's degree required
    • Ability to model lessons, develop and/or facilitate engaging, effective professional development.
    • Knowledgeable effective staff development models for adult learners that lead to increased student achievement.
    • Must be able to demonstrate leadership ability.
    • Must possess a NC Driver's License
    • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration finds appropriate.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    • Considerable knowledge of student advocacy (services) available to students
    • Strong ability in written and verbal communication to effectively express and in making oral presentations.
    • Deep understanding of Preschool Pyramid Model
    • Ability to advocate for students and personnel as necessary
    • Proven ability to provide constructive feedback
    • Familiarity with coaching practices
    • Ability to be comfortable working with teachers, building a trusting relationship to help bring out their strengths as well as refining their weaknesses.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assist in implementing JCPS preschool programs through information shared
    • Serve as a liaison for our stakeholders
    • Promote stakeholder involvement in the educational process.
    • Be knowledgeable and willing to share information with agencies and organizations within Johnston County and throughout the State that offer resources and services for our stakeholders. District Student Advocacy (Services) Program and procedures.
    • Ingenuity in utilizing resources available to provide timely data driven information when requested and on a regular basis.
    • Assist in implementation of training for personnel.
    • Visit classrooms regularly and provide teacher feedback and coaching to improve instruction as well as to address implementation issues.
    • Collaborate with teachers on program improvement and instructional interventions for students who are at-risk of not meeting federal, state, or district performance standards.
    • Participate as a leadership contributing member of the JCPS Preschool Department.
    • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must be able to communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community leaders.
    • Work well under pressure of
    • Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of fingering, grasping, kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.
