    Buffalo Solar is looking for a Solar Project Development Engineer, with an Electrical Engineering background, to provide strategic, technical, operational, and financial leadership for successful implementation of all of its commercial solar project activities. This role will offer support and subject matter expertise for solar project development for behind the meter EPC and PPA projects
    Perform/Evaluate interconnection/feasibility studies and identify schedule and risks in support of project development and due diligence evaluation.
    • Provide technical insight and business solutions to reduce interconnection cost and remove obstacles to project development.
    • Act as main liaison with project developers on matters relating to interconnection and provide technical insight and business solutions to reduce interconnection cost and remove obstacles to project development.
    • Negotiate and amend contractual agreements with Transmission Owners for potential commercial counter parties.
    • Collaborate with the engineering team in reviewing interconnection-related design elements and optimizing the projects engineering design in support of grid integration requirements.
    • Engage and manage the team as necessary to support the interconnection process including application deliverables in addition to engineering review of utility schedules and cost estimates.
    • Forecast and communicate required deposit and payment amounts for interconnection queue positions and related studies.
    • Support internal analysis to predict interconnection capacity and other key parameters to support project siting.
    • Support transmission assessments and policy reviews to forecast future system conditions and determine commercial viability to support siting, IA, PPA, financing and sale proces
    • Maintain commercial project financing vendor relationships and provide creative financing solutions for projects
    • Identify potential strategic alliances/partnerships and PPA opportunities, and help lead/coordinate the related deal efforts (including structuring and negotiations).
    • Assist with Contract development and management through sales and implementation cycle
    • Guide and perform financial analyses that help in the evaluation of strategic options, including financial outlook, NPV, and scenario/sensitivity analysis.
    • Model PPAs
    • Consult on project proposals with Construction Executives to advise on project schedules, limitations, procedures for accomplishing projects, and allotment of available resources to various phases of a project
    • Provide technical/engineering electrical support for projects in development or construction.
    • Prepares electrical design criteria for single line and site plan.
    • Manages third party engineering
    Requirements:
    • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering (or associated discipline) from accredited university.
    • Knowledge of accounting procedures related to expenditures, project billing, and the capital budgeting process is desired.Knowledge of PPA models and agreements
    • Experience in Commercial Solar DesignStrong knowledge of industry standard design codes such as National Electric Code, International Building Code, International Fire Code, AHJs, and other industry standards;
    • Proven experience in origination, business development, or sales roles within the renewable energy industry, with a focus on behind the meter, Commercial Solar projects and PPAs;
    • Strong understanding of renewable energy markets, including knowledge of regulatory frameworks, incentive programs (REAP, NYSERDA), and market dynamics;
    • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders;
    • Proficiency in financial analysis, contract negotiation, and project management;
    • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Solar Production Modeling (Helioscope or similar) and other technical software. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook and proven ability to learn new software programs.
