    JOB SUMMARY

    At NorthBay Healthcare the Clinical Laboratory Scientist IV, Blood Bank is a licensed clinical laboratory scientist with demonstrated expertise in Blood Bank. In addition to performing high quality blood bank testing. the incumbent is responsible for expanding the technical expertise of the section and the other testing staff. Oversees the functioning of the section by monitoring all blood bank testing, quality control and patient results for quality and adherence to policies. Has primary responsibility for reviewing and maintenance of policies and procedures in the Blood Bank section at both NBMC and VVH. This role also encompasses the development of personnel, compliance with regulatory, accreditation and professional standards.

    PRIMARY JOB DUTIES
    1. Performs the duties of the CLS mainly in Blood Bank but assists as needed in the general laboratory.
    2. Provides high level of technical training to staff expand the capability of the department.
    3. Responsible for performing competency testing for other staff members.
    4. Monitors and ensures that the Blood Bank meets applicable professional and regulatory standards. Instrumental in supporting the departmental accreditation processes.
    5. Performs educational needs assessment of staff and develops yearly education program for department in collaboration with the director.
    6. Maintains ongoing Quality Improvement activities consistent with the organizational quality and patient safety plans.
    7. Reviews and is accountable for assigned policy and procedure updates.
    8. Participates on special projects and interdisciplinary committees as assigned.
    9. Participates in statistical data gathering and reporting.
    10. Maintains personal education level commensurate with the position duties.
    11. Participates in meeting presentation, educational workshops and in-services.
    12. Performs other duties as assigned.
    Qualifications

    JOB SPECIFICATIONS
    1. Education: B.S. degree and graduation from an approved school of medical technology. Advanced certification by accrediting agency such as SBB or MT(ASCP) BB preferred or equivalent blood bank reference lab job experience.
    2. Licensure: State of California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License.
    3. Experience: Six years as a registered technologist in an acute care hospital desired.
    4. Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Excellent judgment and technical skills. Ability to provide professional feedback to laboratory personnel. Must possess teaching ability, leadership and high professional standards. Must be well organized, be able to set priorities, work independently and is an effective team member. Word processing, statistical/data management skills required.
    5. Interpersonal Skills: Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills in dealing with co-workers, the public, patients and physicians.     Compensation: Based on years of experience: $64.35-$74.51 per hour

    Night Differential : $11.20 per hour

    Evening Differential: $5.58 per hour
