    Job Description


    This position exists in the perinatal specialty area and works under the general direction of the physician and/or supervision of the manager.

    It requires competencies in a variety of OB procedures, performing ultrasound examinations in accordance with AIUM guidelines and protocols specializing in Maternal Fetal Medicine.

    The responsibilities include quality care of patients, accurate record keeping, care of equipment and other duties as assigned.


    Responsibilities

    1. Performs imaging and procedural duties of a Maternal Fetal Medicine Sonographer.


    • Follows testing protocols as established by the Medical Director and related professional standards.
    • Produces quality study images & data by demonstrating competence and proper use of imaging and accessory equipment.
    • Prepares patients and provides ultrasound guided assistance to the physician during procedures.
    • Assesses the patient's physical, psychosocial, and educational needs, and obtains an appropriate history prior to each test.
    • Confirms appropriateness of supporting information and documentation for the exam being performed.
    • Maximizes services and maintains the work flow, performs assignments within the established time duration and actively helps others when needed.
    • Explains testing procedures to patients, family members and other staff members connected to the care of the patient as needed.

    2. Employment Responsibilities (Section 2 of Evaluation 20% value):


    • Remains compliant to the required code of conduct particularly the policies and expectations related to remain "Fit for Duty" and HIPAA compliant
    • Time and Attendance, clocks in and out as expected, doesn't abuse lunch break
    • Parking, parks in the required employee location
    • Tobacco, no smoking anywhere on campus
    • Safety, maintains an organized, clean, stocked, and safe work area.
    • Compliance/Training
    • Professional Credentials, to remain current and registered in the specialty
    • Maintains current CPR certification.
    • Health Stream Education, complies with annual hospital and departmental safety and in-service requirements on time (i.e. .STAT).
    • TB testing
    • Flu/Tdap vaccinations

    3. Integrates and promotes the Perinatal Ultrasound functions into the Organization.


    • Works closely with leadership in efficiently using department resources and staffing to volumes.
    • Schedules add-on and emergency exams for same day requests following good customer service standards.
    • Maintains a working knowledge of all Information Systems, including proficiency on the structured reporting and image archival system.
    • Maintains accurate and timely order entry and exam tracking in the HIS.
    • Communicates equipment maintenance needs to the supervisor and operates equipment safely and properly.

    4. Follows Quality Improvement and Infection Control standards.


    • Participates in Peer Review
    • Participates in organizational and departmental process improvement activities.
    • Engages in department meetings and shares responsibility for agenda.
    • Maintains departmental compliance to regulatory expectations

    5. Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager or designee

    EDUCATION:

    Graduate from an accredited Ultrasound training program, RDMS Registry in related ultrasound specialty ( OB/GYN) required and must maintain the minimum continuing education requirements of the registry and ACR/AIUM as appropriate.


    YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
    Minimum of 1 year in high risk OB ultrasound diagnostics and procedures.


    REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

    This position requires:

    • the ability to perform the routine procedures and real time techniques of the specialty, including M-mode, pulse and color Doppler, and have a good grasp of fetal and cross sectional anatomy and medical
    • the ability to perform vital signs, including pulse rate, blood pressure (using automated and manual system), respiration rate, and oxygen saturation.
    • the skill set to provide relevant technical information about the exam to the interpreting physician.
    • familiarity with the R4 archival and structured reporting system.
    • customer service and communication skills to interact positively and constructively with staff, patients and physicians both in person and by telephone.

    LICENSES &


    CERTIFICATIONS:


    This position requires certification as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) in the appropriate field and Applicant must be certified in Nuchal Translucency (NT)/Nasal Bone Ultrasound and be registry eligible in Fetal Echo.

    BLS Certification.
