    Job Summary

    The Soquel Union Elementary School District is looking for Speech & Language Pathologists. Current openings are at Satna Cruz Gardens Elementary School and Main Street Elementary School.

    Job Description / Essential Elements:

    QUALIFICATIONS: Credential: Appropriate California Credential
    Education: Bachelor's Degree
    REPORTS TO: Principal
    JOB GOAL:To provide appropriate individualized assessment and clinical services to identified speech, language and hearing impaired pupils as determined by the student's Individual Educational Plan.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1)Identifies verbal communication problems through referrals from school personnel or post screening.
    2)Performs individual evaluation for all children identified. This evaluation may include:

    •Use of appropriate instruments and equipment

    •Consultation with school personnel, parents, physicians
    3)Takes initiative in seeking additional help through outside disciplines when this is indicated for the benefit of the child.
    4)Serves as a member of Child Study Team as appropriate.
    5)Participates in the assessment, planning and identification process for appropriate pupils.
    6)Develops remedial strategies appropriate to the individual needs of children.
    7)Provides therapy, individually and/or in small groups, for those children with identified communicative disorders.
    8)Presents and utilizes a variety of materials motivating to children and appropriate to their needs.
    9)Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly learning environment.
    10)Confers with and provides relevant information regarding the therapy program and the needs of the child.
    11)Works effectively with principals, teachers and other specialists in problem-solving and assessments.
    12)Confers frequently with parents and professional staff members on each pupil's progress.
    13)Evaluates and monitors pupil progress and makes periodic reports on the achievement and personal adjustment of speech, language and hearing impaired pupils in cooperation with the administration support and teaching staff through the provision of appropriate pupil assessments.

    14)Maintains required records.

    15)Attends school site staff meetings.

    16)Complies with district policies.

    17)Implements federal, state and local regulations relative to handicapped pupils.

    18)Observes code of ethics (NEA, Title V).

    19)Operates flexibly within the school environment.

    20)Provides inservice training when appropriate.
    21)Communicates goals and progress of the therapy program to parents and teachers.
    22)Participates in parent and school informational meetings when relevant to the speech, language and hearing program.
    23)Recommends to appropriate staff, committee or administrator various books, instructional aids, supplies and equipment which should be ordered for special education pupils.
    24)Keeps abreast of curriculum requirements for grades and subjects in all areas studied by pupils assigned.
    25)Seeks and uses new teaching techniques and special equipment adapted to the nature of disability of students.
    26)Attends and participates in appropriate parent/faculty or community activities.
    27)Maintains professional competence through participation in inservice education activities provided and supported by the district and in other professional growth activities selected by the employee.
    28)Maintains current knowledge of regulations and procedures related to programs and services for handicapped students.
    29)Other duties as assigned.
    ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:
    The speech, language and hearing specialist is directly responsible to the Assistant Superintendent, Administration and Personnel. He/she is under the immediate supervision of the school principal when at a school site.
    EVALUATION:
    Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the board's policy and the collective bargaining agreement. The evaluation will be performed by either the Assistant Superintendent, Administration and Personnel in consultation with the school principal or the principal.

    Requirements / Qualifications

    This position requires a valid California or out-of-state Clinical/Rehabilitative Services Credential-Language, Speech, and Hearing.
