    Job Description (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the UN agency for human settlements.

    It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.

    The Urban Economy Branch of UN-Habitat has the mandate to promote local capabilities of local governments to develop financial instruments to keep pace with the demands of rapid urbanization.

    The Urban Economy Branch has the mandate to promote plans and provide support for more efficient, socially inclusive, better integrated and connected cities that foster sustainable urban development.

    ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority, the Human Resources Assistant will coordinate various actions related to the administration of the Organizations human resource activities, e.g recruitment, placement, promotion, re-location, performance appraisal, job classification reviews, separation of staff members, training, ensuring consistency in the application of UN Rules and procedures as such is responsible for the following duties; Initiates, reviews, processes and follows-up on actions related to the administration of the Organizations human resources activities.

    Reviews and processes personnel actions through Umoja.

    Monitors due dates for staff contract extensions/separations and initiates for processing electronically and for completion by reviewing and processing personnel actions.

    Assists in reviewing requests for classification for the Agency and provides advice and answers general queries on classification procedures and processes.

    Launches and Prepares Vacancy Announcements in INSPIRA in consultation with the Hiring Managers, for clearance by the Supervisor (including assisting with the identification of screening questions).

    Maintains related files for vacancy management and for tracking of status and data management.

    Assists in the coordination and management of in-house training activities and liaise with UNON Staff Development Unit on the UNON provided training activities.

    Assists in the management of the UN-Habitat JPO programme, including the preparation of cost estimates for submission to donors.

    Responds to enquiries and in liaison with UNON as necessary, provides information and advice to staff regarding their entitlements, administrative procedures, processes and practices, conditions of service.

    Provides general office support services:

    processes drafts, edits, proofreads and finalizes for signature/approval a variety of correspondence and other communications; sets up and maintains/records (electronic and paper); monitors deadlines, etc.

    Drafts routine correspondence to respond to enquiries in respect to relevant administrative and personnel matters.

    Education High school diploma or equivalent is required.
    Post secondary diploma in Administration, human resources or related field. Work Experience Seven years of progressively responsible experience in human resources management, administrative services or related area is required.
    A thorough knowledge of UMOJA application is desirable.

    Knowledge of United Nations policies and staff rules and regulations in the area of Human Resources and Post Management is regarded is desirable.1 year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

    Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
