    The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.



    Position Summary

    Under close supervision from the Professor, the Research Staff Assistant (RSA) will assist with research on biodiversity response to global change factors, including the analysis of LiDAR data, bioacoustics data, and fieldwork at Black Rock Forest in collaboration with graduate students, faculty and staff associated with the long-term research project. They will be responsible for participating in Naeem's weekly lab meetings, working with archived data, assisting with statistical analyses, and graphical presentations of results, and gain experience in the preparation of manuscripts, conference papers, and outreach materials. Through this position, the RSA will gain valuable experience in preparation for a PhD and career in the natural science and policy fields associated with environmental biology (e.g., ecology, evolution, global change biology, biodiversity science).



    Responsibilities

    • Attend and participate in weekly Naeem Lab meetings (5%)
    • Assist with the analysis of LiDAR, bioacoustics, and other data (45%)
    • Assist with graduate students and faculty on data preparation for manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and grant proposals (30%)
    • Assist in fieldwork* at Black Rock forest (in the Hudson Highlands, an hour away by car) in long-term ecological research with graduate students and faculty (5%)
    • Participate in collaborative department and conference presentations (5%)
    • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested (5%)
    • Participate in periodic INSPIRE Scholar programming and the INSPIRE Community Summer Program (5%)

    *Field work consists of one monthly full-day trip in Spring, Summer, and Fall, so is not a weekly event. This is an estimate.



    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Ecology, or related specific discipline and 2 years of experience in a research environment.


    Additional Qualifications

    • Prior experience with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
    • Interest in computational analytics and fieldwork in local forested areas or urban green spaces in NYC.
