    The Transportation Operations Manager is the owner of the Transportation Business Unit, a revenue generating branch of the Fiore & Sons, Inc.

    portfolio.

    The Transportation Business Unit is responsible for generating a target gross and net profit amount each year, along with ensuring that all of the companys construction business units are supplied with the required materials and billed accordingly in line with each project and client.

    The Transportation Business Unit is also responsible for embodying the Fiore & Sons, Inc. mission and values, and positively impacting all our stakeholders wherever possible.

    is looking for a high-level strategic thinker with financial acumen and solid business experience, and in particular, a superior track record at driving a culture of respect, teamwork, and consideration.

    This will include communication, coaching, demonstrating genuine care for each member of the team, continually striving to build a leadership team equal to or better than themselves, and setting and maintaining healthy boundaries at every level of the team.


    TOTAL COMPENSATION
    $98,000 to $149,500 per year

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


    Own and manage the Transportation Business Unit, including its people, resources, financial projections, metrics, and everything else involved in running a complex, revenue-generating business unit.

    Reinvigorate and maintain a culture that reflects the mission-driven approach of the Fiore & Sons, Inc.


    Executive Team and Owners, including:
    Building and maintaining trust across the department and between departments related to Transportation.
    Setting a tone of respect at every level and modeling the FIORE PRIDE values in every interaction.


    Investing heavily in the companys communication training programs and ensuring the principles are integrated at all levels of the department.


    Promoting the companys Speak Up Listen Up initiative and ensuring individuals at all levels feel comfortable doing so without fear of repercussions.


    Continuously network, build, and maintain partnerships with useful parties throughout the industry, including potential clients, other trucking companies that can be utilized to supplement our workforce, and various providers and receivers of resources.


    Make a strategic case for external work where it would behoove the company to engage and bring in sources of revenue, partnering with the Estimating group to turn leads into sales.


    • Continually analyze financial metrics and utilize various data points to make recommendations on the future of the trucking division, including:+
    How many trucks the company should run currently and over a five-year period.


    What proportion of external work best balances the needs of ensuring our internal divisions are serviced fully, diversifying our revenue, and keeping our trucks busy all year round.


    How to manage risk such that the liability to the company doesnt outweigh the benefits of running the trucking division.


    Problem-solve for market variability, seasonality issues, supply chain challenges, etc., to ensure that trucks stay busy, other business units stay sufficiently supplied, and employees stay engaged.


    Develop a leadership team that effectively manages the needs of driving revenue with the overall culture and communication habits of the team.


    Report regularly to leadership and executives on the progress of the business unit both financially and culturally, providing metrics to substantiate this wherever possible.


    Ensure safety programs are implemented in such a way as to maximize safety throughout the organization while minimizing cost and disruption to operations.

    Ensure vehicles are inspected for compliance daily.


    Ensure company equipment and staff are in compliance with DOT, OSHA, and all other federal, state and local rules and regulations.

    Ensure drivers daily paperwork and inspections are in compliance with DOT regulations.


    Hire competent, qualified drivers whose skills, aptitude, and attitude are a good fit for the department to ensure high morale and overall departmental productivity.

    Ensure drivers are familiar with Fiore owned or leased equipment types, maintain a professional appearance and exhibit safe and effective driving habits.

    Coach and train staff to maximize departmental efficiencies while maintaining a professional and positive working environment. This may include driving and/or evaluating new drivers in our fleet trucks.


    Negotiate best possible pricing and services with subcontractors, materials suppliers, clients, and other partners, both in managing daily operations and when leveling out workflow to maintain revenue and service needs.


    Work closely with Superintendents and Foremen to review equipment and personnel needs, and ensure schedules are updated daily to meet ever-changing needs.


    Use industry knowledge and contacts to find most lucrative solutions for materials procurement, disposing of excess soil, and other incidentals to the trucking and construction industry.


    Provide input to Estimating and Project Management on any given project based on current market conditions for soil import and/or export.

    Drive light duty pickup as necessary to fulfill duties

    Required:

    Ability to successfully drive a revenue-generating business unit.
    Ability to make a strategic case for recommendations in a number of areas affecting the Transportation Business Unit.
    Ability to generate and maintain strategic partnerships with other clients and truck suppliers, etc.

    Follow-through to ensure drivers, field crews, and other departments have everything they need to be successful.
