    The salary range for this position is $133,046 - $174,192.We are looking for a Senior Device Engineer - Trap Development to design, model and deliver new surface ion trap architectures.

    Partnering with a cross-functional team, the Senior Device Engineer will work to develop tools and systems in support of ion trap design and analysis including scripting, FEA modeling, mask layout, experiment design and data analysis.

    This critical team member will work to drive future designs through a disciplined engineering approach as we progress on our mission to build the world's best quantum computers to solve the world's most complex problems.


    Responsibilities:

    Develop, implement, maintain and continuously improve in-house Python framework in support of ion trap design and layoutGenerate 3D models for FEA analysis of both thermal and electromagnetic ion trap propertiesCreate experiment plans to test new trap designsDevelop and maintain scripting used for equipment control and data collectionAnalyze results and generate clear, concise reports for a broad audience including junior engineers and executives Coordinate with microfabrication engineers, package designers and AMO physicists to help define development areas for next generation ion trapsYou'd be a good fit with: 5+ years of Python programming experience5+ years of electromagnetic modeling experience with Ansys or ComsolExperience transforming theory to R&D prototypesMicrofabrication experienceExperience writing experiment plans and coordinating with a cross-functional team to collect the required dataExcellent verbal and written communication skillsBachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or ScienceYou'd be a great fit with: PhD in physics or engineering5+ years of experience in surface ion trap designExperience trapping ions with surface ion trapsExperience with CAD tools such as AutoCAD or SolidWorksGeneral knowledge of complex optical, electrical or mechanical products and systems Experience with optics, photonics, opto-electronic modules, vacuum assemblies and cryogenic systemsBest-in-class cross-functional communication, collaboration & presentation skillsAbility to be on-site every dayOur HQ is located in College Park, Maryland and we are a 15 minute metro ride from Washington DC.

    We are actively building out our recently opened manufacturing and production facility in the Seattle, Washington area.

    Depending on the position, you may be required to be located in Washington DC, Seattle, Washington or the Toronto, Canada area.

    The base pay component of the offer will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
