Summary:
Schedules and performs research MRI exams with high quality and high success rate, including challenging exams on infants and young children without sedation.
Job duty allocation is approximately:
70% Active scanning duties, 10% collaboration, and 20% other duties. Works and communicates well with other staff members both in and outside the hospital. Keeps area in Joint Commission readiness state at all times. Performs all job tasks according to ACH service standards of safety, compassion, performance and presentation. Job does require some evening and weekend hours to accommodate research patients.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensures successful completion of research MRI data acquisition. Perform quality research MRI exams. Documentation of any necessary patient information in electronic medical record. Ensure correct patient, order and exam for each research participant. Implement new research MRI sequences/protocols in collaboration with the Primary Investigator and Team. Assist in MRI process for ordering, scheduling and billing for current and new research projects. Screen all participants and persons entering Zone 3 and 4 for MRI safety. Monitor all safely screened persons in Zone 3 and 4. Adheres to all MRI safety recommendations and policies. Properly screen all participants for pregnancy when indicated. Complies with all confidential participant information.
Demonstrates knowledge of all emergency equipment/supplies Conduct research MRI scans with high quality and high success rate, including scans on infants and young children without sedation.
Perform maintenance and quality control procedures on research equipment and software, as appropriate Manage research MRI data as requested by research Investigators Attend research meetings.
Primary Technologist scanning all research patients, but will collaborate with limited staff Technologists to learn the protocols, and provide backup when needed.
Intake Process Collaborate with Primary Investigators on the design and implementation of research studies. Build needed research scanning protocol into the MRI scanner.
Other Duties Perform Imaging post processing Write lab report or summary of procedures, as well as findings Assist in other aspects of research projects conducted in ACH Radiology.

Complies with Arkansas State Health Department Regulations; Joint Commission regulations; andpractices universal precautions as directed by OSHA. Adheres to ACH Mission statement and complies with all ACH and departmental policies and procedures. Responds accordingly to all ACH emergency procedures. Perform other research duties as instructed.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Required - Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university - Field of Study: ARRT Registry in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) required , or Or four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATION / LICENSE / REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS Required - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT R) (Candidate must possesss at time of hire) Required - MRI Specialist (Certification) (Candidate must possesss at time of hire)
SKILL REQUIREMENTS Required - Good communication and organization skills. Required - Concise decision making skills. Required - Flexible working hours and to perform exams during afterhours. . Required - Computer skills and data entry. Required - Must not have any contraindications for working in strong magnetic fields. Preferred - Previous experience on GE LX and Philips Achieva MRI systems preferred.
