    JOB SUMMARY:

Support the design, prototyping, and testing of new flash lamp and diode pumped solid state laser systems and optical subsystems as a member of the Manufacturing Engineering group. Support the overall introduction of new product to production by training, creating work instructions, identifying/correcting design issues, and optimizing production of product lines. Additional responsibilities include coordination with production, engineering, customer service, and sales.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Support the transition of new designs into production by designing/building test fixtures and generating test procedures, work instructions, manuals and other related documentation.
    • Test and validate prototype laser designs using lab setups and applicable equipment.
    • Build and test specialty laser systems and subsystems.
    • Work with engineering to develop test setups for incoming inspection, component qualification and in process system diagnostics.
    • Create technical specifications and validation test plans for optical components, assemblies, and laser systems.
    • Interface with optical component suppliers to optimize delivery of product and process NCM/RMA material. Qualify new and replacement components/suppliers through the definition and implementation of appropriate test setups.
    • Interact with engineers of other disciplines (optical, mechanical, electrical, software, and customer service) to implement new laser designs. Participate in the brass-board, alpha and beta phases of programs to gain in depth expertise and understanding of the performance and technical principals of the devices being developed.
    • Participate in design reviews for products under development within the engineering group to ensure manufacturability is maintained with adequate production margin considerations.
    • Support laser technology development by doing feasibility studies, testing optical design concepts and prototypes, and performing design simulations using appropriate design tools.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Consult as needed on technical issues encountered on the production line and in customer service.
    • Interface with customers as required on specifications, applications and installations. Support the TSS (Technical Sales Support) with advice from a technical and capabilities perspective.
    • Participate in technical design reviews to ensure products are manufacturable, have adequate margin and ensure the production procedures are within the capabilities of the production personnel and instrumentation.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or equivalent expertise.
    • Experience with Q-switched solid state lasers (Nd:YAG, Er:YAG, etc.).
    • Experience with harmonic frequency generation using non-linear optical materials.
    • Proven team player that works well with others in Engineering, Production, Sales, etc.
    • Proven capabilities in diagnostics, troubleshooting and leading production personnel to identify and implement processes that provide a full understanding and long-term solution to production issues.
    • Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, applicable CAD tools, etc).
    • Experience using oscilloscopes, power meters, beam analyzers and other standard optical test equipment.

    Preferred qualifications:

    • Familiarity with ISO-9001, AS-9100, or equivalent quality system.
    • Experience in reading, understanding, and utilization of optical diagrams, electrical schematics and mechanical drawings to diagnose production issues.
    • Experience in diagnostic optical setups for diagnosing and testing optical assemblies.
    • Experience with technical programming languages such as MatLABTM or LabVIEWTM.
    • Experience with optical design software such as ZemaxTM.
    • Familiarity with ERP software.
