    Position Summary:

    Under the direction of the Director of Freight Planning, the Principal

    Planner:
    Freight Planning will be responsible for performing a variety of planning, research, analysis, and outreach
    activities related to freight and goods movement. The job requires familiarity with freight and
    goods movement in a complex and dynamic region , experience in regional and
    community planning , the ability to research freight and related topics and
    produce reports, as well as the ability to effectively engage and interact with
    stakeholders and the public.


    Essential Functions:

    - Work on Freight Planning tasks, including consultant efforts, outreach meetings with stakeholders, and preparation for Freight Initiative Committee meetings.

    • Contribute to the research and preparation of reports, participate in field analyses and site visits, and assist in development of briefing documents on freightrelated topics and other planning projects. Topics include but are not limited to truck rest stops, rail grade crossings, last mile deliveries, and participating in other agency goods movement projects.
    • Analyze data utilizing appropriate methodologies and techniques to establish trends, identify challenges and opportunities, make recommendations and prepare related documentation and final reports.
    • Coordinate with other NJTPA staff on data analysis, GIS, and contribute to agencywide planning initiatives such as the Long Range Transportation Plan.
    • Assist as needed in establishing and maintaining freightrelated inventories and databases, commodity profiles, freightrelated emerging technologies, and analytical tools.

    Additional Functions:

    - Provide subject matter expertise for topics related to multi-modal goods movement within the agency and to outside stakeholders.

    • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    Prerequisite Qualifications:

    - Graduation
    from an accredited college with a bachelor's degree in planning, public
    policy, or engineering.

    • Five (5) years of applied experience in transportation,
    community planning, freight planning, or a related field.

    • At the university's discretion, the education and experience
    prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the
    satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and
    experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.


    Preferred Qualifications:

    - Graduation
    from an accredited college with a master's degree in transportation planning,
    public policy, engineering, or related technical field.

    • Familiarity with public sector involvement with freight movement and the
    metropolitan planning process

    • Demonstrated project management and organizational skills.
