    Description

    The SUE Project Manager/Senior Utility Locating Manager (SULM) is the direct supervisor for all field staff in their respective branch office. SULMs are responsible for scheduling, training, and general personnel management. Additionally, the SULM is responsible for proposal assistance, bidding support, and client communication.

    Job Duties & Responsibilities:

    1. Oversee and/or lead on-the-job training of field crew.

    2. Assist Directors in proposal preparation including:

    a. Site recon

    b. Client meetings

    c. Preliminary records research

    d. Fee estimates origination

    3. Review projects with field staff to ensure crews have a complete understanding of what is needed; Create and update field crew schedules; Maintain and update job board.

    4. Monitoring project budgets and schedule – report to PE/LS

    5. Ensure all pre-project tasks are completed: required One-Call tickets for test holes; Obtain necessary permits for test hole/road closing projects; Contact utility owners and obtain records; Determine project logistics – per diem, lodging, vehicles, etc.

    6. Upon NTP from clients, set up job packets to include:

    a. Copy of the proposal

    b. Area maps

    c. Plot sheets, drafting sheets, establish LOS

    d. Blank forms – test holes, inverts, toll log, etc.

    7. QA/QC Review: designating and test hole projects – field, office, and CADD reviews; Field review all subcontractor work for QA/QC.

    8. Oversee maintenance of vehicles, air compressors, air tools and all locating equipment; Maintain/order shop supplies and tools.

    9. Interview and/or attend interviews for potential field crews.

    10. Schedule and lead monthly safety meetings.

    11. Other duties as assigned.

    Job Requirements:

    General

    1. Strong experience in technical utility locating and proficiency in the CI/ASCE 38-02 Standard

    2. Experience in management of field crews

    3. Basic knowledge of applicable CADD software

    4. Basic knowledge of surveying best practices

    5. GPR Utility Locating knowledge and experience

    6. Understanding of Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) procedures

    7. Proficiency in reading maps, records, and plan sets

    8. Working knowledge of Excel, Word, and PDF editor

    9. Must have good communication skills (verbal and written) and attention to detail

    10. Ability to listen to, understand, and follow directions. Ability to delegate directions correctly.

    11. Ability to remain flexible as specific assignments change.

    12. Ability to work with a variety of personalities.

    Physical

    1. Must be able to walk, bend, and lift up to 75 pounds.

    2. Must have the ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.

    3. Must have the ability to stand/walk for up to eight hours a day

    4. Must have the ability to see and respond to external influences, including hazardous environments.

    5. Must have the ability to wear personal protective gear correctly most of the day.

    6. Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas.

    7. Frequent sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.

    8. Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.

    9. Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

    Work Environment

    1. Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.

    2. Must be able to work in a confined space.

    3. Must be available to work overtime and some weekends & travel as needed.

    4. Office environment (primarily)

    Skills & Experience:

    Minimum Qualifications

    1. 7+ years of utility locating experience; 5+ years of supervisory or project management experience

    2. HS Diploma or GED required.

    3. Applicable Traffic Control Certification

    4. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test

    5. Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.

    Valued but not required skills and experience:

    1. Associate or bachelor's degree in related field

    2. Advanced knowledge/proficiency of MicroStation, AutoCAD, or Open Roads

    3. Advanced Knowledge/proficiency of ArcGIS

    4. HAZWOPER40 certification

    5. OSHA10 or OSHA30

    6. Existing First-Aid/CPR certification
