    Job Title: Chief Engineer

    Department: RoomsDepartment/Engineering

    Location: The Standard, High Line

    Reporting to: Director ofEngineering

    Responsible for: Engineering Mechanics, Painters, Coordinators and Supervisors

    Job Purpose:

    boilers and mechanical systems and their maintenance and repair, youhave a proven proactive, leadership quality.

    Main Duties &Responsibilities

  • Provides professional and courteous guest service atall times.
  • Supervises maintenance operations for center,including but not limited to refrigeration, heating, plumbing, water treatment,preventative maintenance, Hotel front and back of house spaces, A/C units, icemachines, lighting, kitchen equipment, emergency generators, water softeners,switch rooms, roof exhausts, electrical substations, fire and life safetysystems, and other systems and equipment owned, leased or managed by the Hotel.
  • Monitors electric, gas, oil and water consumption on aprescribed basis.
  • Ensures that all purchased services, electrical,plumbing, cleaning etc. are performed in a manner that exceeds exhibitor andclient expectations.
  • Supervises assigned associates: hiring,terminations, performance evaluations and development.
  • Ensures all projects are completed according tospecifications and are completed on time.
  • Works closely with Housekeeping/Environmental Servicesto ensure coordination of activities.
  • Coordinates with Security to maintain key inventoryfor all locks.
  • Trains center staff in emergency procedures.
  • Aids and instructs craftsmen in scheduling work,ordering material and completing assignments by a specified date.
  • Meets with architects to discuss blueprints, contactscontractors to submit bids for new projects, and meets with constructionsupervisors to discuss difference phases of work.
  • Obtains bids and contracts for all items placed undera maintenance agreement as well as landscaping and snow removal contracts.
  • Develops and maintains an ongoing maintenance programfor guestrooms, meeting rooms, public space back of the house spaces, kitchensand all Hotel equipment.
  • Performs inventory and purchasing duties as required.
  • Develops department budget.
  • Maintains cleanliness of grounds and attractiveness oflandscaping.
  • Ensures cleanliness and orderliness of all work spaceand storage areas.
  • Acts as Administrator on Duty as required.
  • Conducts monthly department meetings.
  • Attends weekly staff meetings.
  • Complete projects as determined by the GeneralManager.
  • Provide supervision to the engineering team
  • Ensure all equipment, public areas, and guest roomsare maintained
  • Ensure all maintenance tasks are performed in a timelyand professional manner
  • Operate and properly maintain various types ofelectrical, mechanical and plumbing equipment
  • Supervise the issuance of tools relating to theEngineering department
  • Liaise with contractors and suppliers
  • Purchase products for the engineering department
  • Ensure that all aspects of the Engineering departmentfollow the laws of Health and Safety
  • Maintain a clean and organized shop environment
  • Respond to emergency calls and situations
  • Ensure safety procedures are understood and followed

    • Specific Requirements :

  • High SchoolDiploma or equivalent required
  • Must have avalid FSD (Fire Safety Director) license for a commercial building
  • A minimum of2 years managing and leading others including a track record of successfulcommunication, budgeting & negotiating, scheduling and staffing
  • At least 5years experience in Construction, Mechanical, HVAC, Electrical, Plumbingincluding appliance repair, reading blueprints & power, water and sewerdistribution
  • Mustunderstand building, mechanical, electrical and plumbing principals
  • Three yearsin a public contact position, preferably in an upscale or lifestyle brand hotel
  • Accomplishedat delivering world class 5 star customer service and leading others indelivering outstanding customer service
  • Provenknowledge & application of codes, laws & regulations pertaining topublic buildings and fire including ADA
  • Experienceoperating computer systems for property operations, finance and service tickets
  • EPA &OSHA Certifications strongly preferred
  • Validdriver's license
  • Strong verbaland written communication skills in English
  • Customerservice oriented
  • Ability towork in team and independently
  • Excellentorganization and communication skills
  • Ability towork successfully in a fast paced environment
  • Ability tomaintain composure in a potentially stressful environment
  • Understanding:Ability to read, comprehend and carry out instructions according to establishedprocedures
  • Comprehension:Fluent in the English language

  • Hygiene andSanitation: Adherence to uniform, grooming and personal hygiene standards andexpectations per Standard of Operating Procedures
  • Punctuality:Adherence to posted schedule and arrival time and attendance at mandatorymeetings Responsibility: Personal comportment in line with Standard, New Yorkpolicies, standards, and expectations
  • Must have S12 and S13

  • Multi-lingual,Spanish Preferred
  • Prior workexperience in a luxury, lifestyle boutique hotel
  • Understandthe technologies required in the work you are directly.
  • Planand direct the work of others, either directly or through lower levelsupervisors.
  • Workwith a variety of situations.

  • Reactquickly in emergency situations and make decisions that may involve a greatamount of money or the safety of others.

  • Beavailable on nights, weekends and holidays.

    • Physical Requirements

  • Able to workstanding for a minimum period of 8 hours a day
  • Periodicalbending, kneeling, and stretching
  • Able to pull,push, carry and lift at least 40 pounds of force
  • Must be ableto seize, grasp, turn and hold objects with hands
  • Withstandingchanges in temperature
  • Able to climbladders and tolerate heights
