- Conducting thorough inspections of roadway, structure, and bridge construction/maintenance projects to ensure quality control and contract compliance.
- Communicating inspection findings through clear and concise written reports and verbal communication.
- Applying mathematical principles, including algebra and geometry, to perform accurate measurements and calculations.
- Using materials testing equipment to assess quality and durability.
- Preparing and maintaining project records using contract management and Microsoft 365 software.
- A current and valid driver's license
- A high school diploma or a high school equivalent certification
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Proficiency in mathematics, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry
- Ability to use materials testing equipment effectively
- Competence in personal computers (Windows and MS Office applications) and project/contract management software
- Must be capable of occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds, walking over rough and uneven terrain, standing for up to 12 hours a day on occasion, bending, stooping, kneeling, and twisting, using hands to grasp, reaching, raising hands above the head, sitting, climbing, and balancing
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and terrains is necessary
- Must have or be able to obtain the following certifications within 9 months of employment: Soil and Aggregate Compaction, Asphalt Field Level I & II, Hydraulic Cement Concrete Field, Pavement Marking, Slurry Surfacing, Surface Treatment, Flagger Certification, Virginia DEQ Certification for Erosion and Sediment Control Inspection, Virginia DEQ Stormwater Management (Inspector) Certification, Nuclear Gauge Safety Training, Intermediate Work Zone Traffic Control, 10 Hour OSHA Safety Training, and GRIT (Guardrail Certification)
- Prior experience with the Virginia Department of Transportation is preferred
