Shop Manager | Mechanical & Systems Engineer (Rail Yard Solutions)
CWI, Inc. is seeking a working manager with deep technical expertise to lead our custom rail yard systems fabrication shop. This role bridges the gap between high-level mechanical design and hands-on production for mission-critical rail yard infrastructure.
Core Focus
You will oversee the end-to-end fabrication of specialized rail yard systems, including:
- Fluid Handling: Locomotive fuel pumping, metering skids, and DEF delivery systems.
- Dry Bulk: Locomotive sand storage and pneumatic delivery equipment.
- Yard Infrastructure: Derail systems, industrial water, and waste/drainage systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Production Leadership: Direct a team of fabricators to ensure projects move from blueprint to shipment accurately and on schedule.
- Systems Design: Create and refine designs for fluid process control, industrial piping, and mechanical assemblies.
- Quality & Compliance: Ensure all builds meet AWS welding standards, electrical codes (industrial controls), and client specifications.
- Workflow Integration: Collaborate with engineers and shop foremen to optimize fabrication strategies and troubleshoot mechanical/electrical bottlenecks.
- Safety & Maintenance: Maintain a high-standard safety culture and manage the upkeep of shop machinery and tooling.
Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Associate degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent proven field experience).
- Experience: 5+ years in fabrication shop management with a focus on pipe fitting, welding, and industrial assembly.
- Technical Savvy: Proven ability to read/develop technical drawings; knowledge of fluid process equipment and industrial electrical controls.
- Project Management: Strong grasp of lead-time management, resource allocation, and budget oversight.
- Soft Skills: Clear communication and a "problem-solver" mindset to lead a diverse team of skilled tradespeople.
Compensation & Logistics
- Salary: $60,000.00 – $90,000.00 per year
