    GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

    The School Psychologist is directly responsible for the psychological assessment of academic, social, emotional, and behavioral domains utilizing problem-solving and standardized evaluations with the supervision of a Level II or higher School Psychologist.

    The School Psychologist monitors the completion of case study evaluations and participates in Individual Education Plan (IEP) conferences and problem-solving meetings designing systems, programs and services that maximize students' social, emotional, and educational success.

    In collaboration with staff, families, students, and communities the school psychologist promotes effective educational environments. Reports to the Director of Special Education.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Provides appropriate and timely learning, social-emotional, and mental and behavioral health needs of students, as well as safety and crisis threat assessment procedures.

    Conducts comprehensive psycho-educational evaluations for all initial referrals and reevaluations in accordance with federal, state and District guidelines and interpret results for students and participate in IEP conferences, team meetings, and problem-solving meetings with the supervision of level II or higher School Psychologist.


    Completes due process forms to document evaluation and placement decisions (reports, placement forms, parent letters, etc).

    Serves as consultant to special education programs.

    These services include but are not limited to:
    training of special education teachers and aides.

    Provides consultation with administrators, regular classroom teachers, special education teachers, guidance counselors, curriculum coordinators, vocational rehabilitation counselors, etc., concerned about children exhibiting particular learning and/or behavior problems.


    Lead crisis intervention efforts and provide insight into the development of functional assessments and behavior intervention plans through consultation.


    Conduct evaluations and participate in 504 accommodation plan meetings for students suspected of having disabilities as defined in Section 504 of the Vocational Rehabilitation Act.

    Participates in IEP meetings.

    Assists in monitoring records to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.

    Conduct manifestation determination reviews as necessary for students referred for disciplinary issues and hearings.

    Acts as liaison between schools and District office staff.

    Coordinates with community agencies and private service providers.

    Assists in planning and implementing in-service training for teachers.

    Participate in professional growth activities on a yearly basis including but not limited to recertification for CPI, workshops, in-services, professional reading materials, and/or other available offerings at National Association of School Psychologist and/or South Carolina Association of School Psychologists.


    Willingly performs other related duties as assigned or requested.


    MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
    Master's degree from an accredited college or university. Certification as Psychologist I. Eligible for Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP). Must possess a valid South Carolina driver's license.


    JOB REQUIREMENTS

    Knowledge:
    Knowledge of school psychological services including prevention, assessment, and intervention. Knowledgeable of state and federal regulations and compliance requirements applicable to special education. Knowledge of the records, forms and reports which must be prepared and maintained. Thorough and comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of special education including identification, evaluation, placement, etc. Basic legal knowledge pertaining to the education of disabled students. Knows how to keep abreast of changes in policy, standards, procedures, and regulations pertinent to special services functions.


    Skills/Effort:
    Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply state and federal regulations. Ability to effectively apply knowledge of school psychological services including prevention, assessment, and intervention.

    Advanced human relations, communications and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with students and their parents, District staff, and all other groups involved in the activities of the job by strengthening family and school partnerships.

    Ability to complete, process, and maintain all required records, reports, and confidential information.

    Ability to promote positive and behavioral mental health, support diverse learners, and improve school-wide assessment and accountability monitor individual student progress in academics and behavior.

    Ability to operate general office equipment in the performance of daily activities.

    Additional Physical, Cognitive, and Other Requirements:
    Duties involve work in a school, office, or home environment that is sedentary or may involve walking and standing.

    Must be able to talk, read and hear, and effectively perceive and exchange information in a variety of oral, written and/or printed formats.

    Requires the ability to apply judgment and complex logic in defining problems, collecting information, and drawing valid conclusions. Duties require the ability to effectively inform and counsel students, teachers, parents, community members and others. Must prepare reports, recommendations, correspondence, etc., in correct form including proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Duties require successful adaption to stressors, emergencies, interpersonal conflicts, volatile situations, tight deadlines, etc.

    Must be able to record and exchange data, follow or deliver detailed verbal or written instructions, and make presentations to varied groups, including students, school administrators and staff, etc.

    Must be able to read academic or counseling reports, texts, or journals and interpret/apply school or District policies and procedures.

    Must possess the ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide, determine decimals and percents, and apply statistical analysis.

    Must be able to compare and analyze information in numeric or symbolic form, and appropriately process colors and shades of color.

    Must have sufficient hand, eye and foot coordination to use or operate standard office equipment, items, and supplies. Duties of the job require routine keyboard operations and the frequent use of a computer monitor and related equipment. Duties may involve the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis.


    Working Conditions:
    School environment with little significant exposure to environmental conditions.

    Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require constant attention and working with students.

    Physical demands are restricted to school activities requiring the movement/lifting of items weighing up to 25 pounds. Occasional local travel required; occasional overnight travel required.
