    Description

    The Speech and Language Pathologist functions under the supervision of the Director of Rehabilitation Services and assumes responsibility and accountability for a designated group of patients and provides speech and language therapy evaluations, modalities and treatments in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, maintaining the highest degree of quality patient care. The Speech and Language Pathologist may be assigned to orient staff and students. The Speech and Language Pathologist accurately assesses patients' needs; identifies and initiates appropriate speech and language therapy interventions; provides patient and family teaching; works cooperatively with other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional speech and language therapy practice and interdisciplinary teamwork.

    BASIC KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

    Education / License / Certification:

    • Minimum of Master's degree in Communication Disorders is required
    • Current licensure in Speech and Language Pathology in the State of Tennessee
    • Certified by ASHA for Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech/Language Pathology or be in the Clinical
    • Fellowship Year (CFY) working toward the CCC
    • Current Basic Life Support/CPR Card
    Experience / Skills:
    • One year of experience in the care of patients in an acute hospital, outpatient, or acute rehab setting is preferred
    • Must possess full mobility and the ability to participate in vigorous activity.
    • Position requires the ability to clearly and effectively communicate
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus for observing patients and for accurate reading of equipment and recording on patient charts.
