- Under the direction of the Director of Special Education, or designee, the Student Behavior Specialist provides consultation and training, in Special Education and General Education settings, to teachers, paraprofessionals and parents in assessment, development and execution of positive behavioral intervention conforming to the Hughes Bill and to IDEiA. The Student Behavior Specialist will establish and maintain positive ongoing relationships with outside agencies serving district student and their families.
- Plans and carries out training of groups of teachers and parents in applied behavior analysis, positive behavior support, functional analysis assessment and execution of behavior plans.
- Develops and conducts behavior training of teachers, paraprofessionals, and parents; including development and implementation of effective behavior interventions devoted to specific to individual students, non-violent crises intervention and behavior case management.
- Processes referrals and responds to referrals of Special and General Education students for behavior intervention services.
- Conducts behavioral assessment for students with complex behavioral problems.
- Conducts Functional Analysis Assessments and collaborates with site staff in the development of Positive Behavioral Intervention Plan (PBIP).
- Consults with school psychologists, teachers, school staff and parents/guardians on matters related to behavior.
- Assists in the development and implementation of effective programs for children with autism and serious disturbances of behavior.
- Provides training and consultation in the adaptation of appropriate curriculum to various behavioral interventions.
- Provides training in the documentation of various behavioral interventions.
- Participates in IEP Meetings as a consultant for the purpose of developing and monitoring Behavior Support Plans (BPS), educational objectives and written instructional plans.
- Prepares a variety of professionally written documents and reports in a timely manner.

- Train teachers to adapt curriculum to conform to behavioral plans.
- Carry out appropriate assessment for various behavioral problems and learning problems related to inappropriate behavior.
- Train teachers, parents, and paraprofessionals to properly document behavioral interventions and student learning process.
- Serve as a consultant to administrators, psychologists, teachers, and parents/ guardians.
- Communicate effectively in oral and written form.
- Establish and maintain effective organizational and community relationships.
- Perform essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Minimum three (3) years experience with extensive involvement with autistic and/or severely disabled students.
- Minimum of three (3) years experience in assessment, planning and execution of various behavioral interventions.
- Experience in training of teachers, parents, and paraprofessionals in assessments, planning execution and documentation of various behavioral interventions.
- Extensive participation in professional development training related to behavioral interventions and special disabilities.
- Master's Degree in Behavior, Education, Psychology, or Social Work required.
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI), or related training as a trainer is desirable.
- Multiple Subject Teaching Credential or credentials in Special Education instruction is desirable.
- BCBA certification from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board, or equivalent.
- A valid Class 3 California Driver's License and evidence of appropriate automobile insurance based on DMV regulations may be required, in addition to a valid First Aide and CPR Certificate.
- Moderate physical effort.
- At times restraining students.
- Occasional standing or walking.
- Periodic handling of light weight parcels or supplies.
- Indoor work environment, but some outdoor work may be required.
