Job Description

The Culinary Academy of Las Vegas (CALV) is a leading nonprofit culinary and hospitality training institute with a mission to prepare individuals for successful careers in Las Vegas while aiming to combat poverty and unemployment through skills training.

The primary role of the Cook is to prepare food items according to recipes in the kitchen, fostering positive relationships with colleagues and effectively organizing work tasks for optimal results.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepare hot and cold dishes using various cooking techniques
Follow recipes and menus accurately
Ensure proper product rotation and food quality
Maintain equipment and adhere to sanitation regulations
Coordinate with the Executive Chef on production lists and shortages
Assist during busy periods for efficient service
Keep detailed logs and follow storage procedures
Collaborate with Stewards for clean-up
Close workstation appropriately and store food items correctly
Perform other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Proven ability to prepare high-quality, large-volume food items
Experience with a la carte cooking is a bonus
Knowledge of culinary techniques and food products
Customer service orientation and attention to detail
Proficiency in Food and Beverage preparation and presentation
Expertise in reading and executing recipes
Possess a full knife set and strong knife skills
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
Flexible availability including weekends and holidays

PHYSICAL DEMAND:

This role involves bending, standing, lifting items, reading, and communication. Accommodations may be provided for qualified individuals with specific needs.

LICENSING AND CERTIFICATION:

Valid Health Card and Driver's License required
Access to reliable transportation

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of two (2) years of cooking experience
Knowledge of basic kitchen equipment
Preferably a High School diploma or equivalent
Proficiency in English language
