    I. General Responsibilities

    The occupational therapist is responsible for the implementation of occupational therapy services for identified students.

    II. Examples of Duties

    A. Evaluation

    • Utilizes appropriate assessment tools to evaluate fine and gross motor skills for individual students.
    • Recommends students for therapy services based on established criteria.
    • Writes appropriate IEP goals and objectives based on motor assessments.

    B. Services

    • Provides direct motor therapy to students in individual or group settings.
    • Provides integrated motor therapy within classroom environment.
    • Provides consultation to classroom teachers, nurses, paraprofessionals and IEP Teams.
    • Provides training for staff regarding individual motor, physical and self-care needs of students.
    • Provides information to parents for home exercise programs.

    C. Organization and Management

    • Sends physician referral letters to parents annually.
    • Physical therapy implemented only following receipt of physician orders.
    • Keeps student IEPs and therapy records current and organized.
    • Establishes therapy schedule based on needs of students as reflected on IEPs.
    • Attends IEP meetings and team meetings throught the year.
    • Holds IEP meetings for motor only students.
    • Completes required reports for Third Party Billing.
    • Completes written reports and follows procedural guidelines as set forth by Director and Special Education Coordinator.
    • Determines equipment needs and reports to supervisor.
    • Uses check-in, check-out system for transferring equipment within the District.

    B. Professional Relations

    • Demonstrates sound professional judgment.
    • Maintains a positive attitude.
    • Interacts positively with other staff members.
    • Interacts positively with community and parents.
    • Meets assigned District and department responsibilities.
    • Works to complete department, District and Board of Education goals.

    E. Professional Growth and Development

    • Completes required Continuing Education Units to maintain licensure.
    • Maintains professional growth and development.

    III. Qualifications
    Valid Kansas License.
