- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

- Four years of technical experience in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or
- A bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
- This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The individual in this position will be involved in a year-long trainee program to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge of a Surface Mine Conservation Inspector. This program will cover various responsibilities such as conducting investigations, enforcing regulations, and providing technical advice. The focus will be on inspecting coal and industrial mine surface areas, including coal preparation areas, coal refuse disposal areas, and incidental coal extraction operations. As part of the trainee program, you will learn to enforce laws and regulations in the designated areas. You will also assist in handling citizen complaints by reviewing filings, conducting investigations, and following up with inspection data.
