    Sr. Research Nurse-Urology Surgery

    The annual U.S. News & World Report rankings of Best Hospitals rankings again features MD Anderson as the top choice for cancer care, with Urology being tied for the fifth spot. Our surgeons in the Urology department, in collaboration with colleagues from other specialties, evaluate and treat one of the largest genitourinary cancer patient populations in the country. The clinical research nurses play a critical role in the support of these faculty members as they conduct clinical trials with treatments and therapies that can improve the health and well-being of patients, as well as make a difference in patients' lives. Urology research nurses function as significant role players in a highly collaborative environment, where there are plenty of opportunities to develop both soft and hard skills, via continuous learning thus facilitating the growth of a well-rounded professional.

    SUMMARY
    The primary purpose of the Research Nurse position is to assist with clinical and operational management of research protocols.


    KEY FUNCTIONS

    • Effectively conducts assigned operations of research protocols according to FDA and ICH guidelines of Good Clinical Practice. Applies clinical and research knowledge in the effective management of research protocols. Reviews patient eligibility of potential study cases with physicians. Effectively recruits patients in clinical and minimal risk trials.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of the research process, Code of Federal Regulations and ICH Guidelines for Good Clinical Practice.
    • Coordinates, evaluates and follows patient participation in clinical trials. Assists in the collection and evaluation of data. Develop patient care methodology for protocols, including criteria for patient participation.
    • Independently performs protocol-specific clinical tasks including patient assessment, screening, scheduling future appointments, ordering tests, collecting specimens, monitoring responses; may administer medications. If necessary, administers investigational medications, following acceptable nursing procedures/guidelines. Completion of treatment plans, completion and submission of adverse events, protocol deviations/violations etc.).
    • Must have the ability to travel to and from different destinations, including inpatient and outpatient care areas. Must also be able to maintain a satisfactory work environment by organizing and redistributing files, records, etc., requiring bending, stooping, reaching,

    EDUCATION

    Required:
    Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing


    Preferred:
    Bachelor's Degree in Nursing,


    EXPERIENCE

    Required:
    Two years Registered Nurse experience


    Preferred:
    Two years Clinical Research experience.


    CERTIFICATES / LICENSES
    Current State of Texas Professional Nursing License (RN). Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.


    Preferred:

    American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.
