    Job DescriptionJob SummaryThe flow cytometry medical lab technician will carry out a variety of low to high complexity laboratory tasks including all sample processing, triage and collate all patient history, receive and place all inventory, daily reagents, filing, pipette and stain appropriate antibody panel for respective sample, viability testing and preparation/staining of bone marrow and peripheral blood smears.

    In addition, the MLT should demonstrate knowledge and application of laboratory policies, procedures, and programs and a commitment to continuous learning.

    Major ResponsibilitiesCarry out a variety of moderate to complex techniques including sample processing, pipetting, preparation of smears (BM, PB and FNA's) and subsequent stainingIndependently perform all steps involved in specimen processing, panel pipetting and incubation/washing for flow cytometric evaluationPerform viability stain and count to determine proper cell concentration of processed samplesMulti-task with minimal margin of errorHelp maintain detailed patient records/files of all tests/patients for tracking and follow-upMaintain good communication skills thru email and shift log with co-workers and managementMaintain a well-stocked, clean and safe lab environmentKeep detailed equipment maintenance logsPrepare all worksheets, tube labeling and data entry into OrchardPatient collating and filingPrepare flow reagents (RPMI, Lyse, Fix, etc.)

    when necessaryMulti-task with minimal margin of errorShare responsibilities for accurate inventory of supplies and antibodies with the teamMaintain Wright Geimsa Stainer and maintenanceOther duties as assignedRequirementsFormal training as an MLT requiredAssociate Degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution or equivalent education and training preferredMLT or MT ASCP certification or equivalent preferredKnowledge of sterile techniques, pipetting and smear preparation requiredFlow Cytometry experience preferred but not requiredMust have the ability to stand for long periods of time, bend, stoop, twist and lift approximately 35 poundsAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionMust be an organized, detail-oriented team playerExcellent written and verbal communication skills
