    This summer, Meals on Wheels America will host interns to add capacity and help fulfill our mission. All interns will be an integral part of the organization and will receive individualized attention and professional mentorship. They will be a part of the team during an important time of organizational growth and evolution and will have a hand in some of the major transition projects. All interns will meet bimonthly to discuss projects and share insights. Additional training and professional development opportunities will be made available throughout the internship.

    Meals on Wheels America prides itself on having a vibrant and healthy culture that is both professional and fun. Interns will be able to participate in regular social activities with staff as well as attend staff meetings and briefings.

    TIMING

    The internship will begin on Monday, June 3, 2024 and end Friday, August 2, 2024. All interns are expected to commit a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 24 hours per week, depending on the internship design, for a period of 9 weeks. Business hours are 9am-5:30pm, Monday-Friday. The schedule will be flexible and will allow for time off as needed.

    LOCATION

    The Meals on Wheels America office has been recently renovated, and we are excited to invite interns to work from the office, as needed. Meals on Wheels America embraces a flexible hybrid working model, aiming to meet in person for strategy discussions, team-building, and brainstorming. Our office building is at 1550 Crystal Drive, Arlington VA (accessible from the Crystal City Metro stop on the Blue and Yellow metro lines).

    POSITION SUMMARY

    This internship involves designing various creative assets to support branding efforts, assisting with onboarding local Meals on Wheels programs into the National Brand Adoption program, and helping to maintain the Digital Asset Management (DAM) system. Candidates should be enrolled in a relevant degree program, proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, and possess strong communication and organizational skills. Familiarity with DAM systems and prior internship experience or coursework in brand and graphic design is beneficial.

    The position reports to the Brand Manager and is a flexible hybrid role based in Arlington, VA.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Design new creative assets such as logos, web/social media graphics, one-pagers, and presentations.
    • Support the Brand Manager in welcoming local Meals on Wheels program into the National Brand Adoption program, assisting with onboarding processes and ensuring adherence to brand guidelines.
    • Assist in managing and organizing our Digital Asset Management (DAM) system, by uploading, categorizing, and maintaining digital assets.
    • Contribute to brainstorming sessions for merchandise sales, offering ideas and assisting in the design of promotional items.
    • Attend various team meetings, providing updates on internship projects and actively participating in discussions.
    • Stay updated on graphic design trends and practices, applying this knowledge to enhance project creativity and relevance.

    QUALIFICATIONS OR SKILLS REQUIRED

    • Applicants must include a link to their portfolio or provide at least three examples of their work showcasing their graphic design skills and creativity. Currently enrolled in a degree program related to graphic design, visual communication, marketing, or a related field.
    • Proficiency in graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
    • Basic understanding of design principles, typography, color theory, and layout composition.
    • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
    • Detail-oriented with a keen eye for aesthetics and visual consistency.
    • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    • Eagerness to learn and grow in a dynamic and collaborative work environment.
    • Familiarity with Digital Asset Management (DAM) systems, particularly Brandfolder, is a plus but not required.
    • Prior internship experience or coursework in brand and graphic design is preferred.
