    Substitute Food Service Assistant to work on as needed basis.

    Eligibility List

    In addition to filling the following vacancies, the purpose of this bulletin is to also establish a pool of Substitute Food Service Assistants to work various hours on an as-needed basis at various school sites.

    The substitute hourly rate of pay is $17.46.


    REQUIREMENTS

    • Working-level experience performing routine food service work.
    • Knowledge of basic arithmetic, weights and measures; basic principles and methods of quantity food serving and storage; basic kitchen utensils and equipment; sanitation and personal hygiene.
    • Ability to plan and complete work in accordance with schedules; understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
    • Successfully pass the Garvey School District Food Service Assistant Written Test.
    • Successfully pass the application-screening phase.
    • Completion of a Criminal Records Check will be required prior to beginning work.

    Definition:


    Under supervision, to prepare and serve foods in a school cafeteria; serve food in a satellite kitchen; and to perform related work as required.



    Examples of Duties:


    Wash, clean, chop, cut, slice fresh fruits and vegetables; slice and chop meat and cheese products; mix sandwich spreads and salad dressings; cut and portion foods such as fruit and vegetable cups, pizza, Jello, cake; assemble salads and sandwiches; wrap foods; and open cans.

    Wash dishes, clean kitchen, snack areas, counters, and machinery. Count trays, food items and supplies for inventory control. Operate fryers, ovens, barbecues, slicers, and other equipment used in food preparation. Measure and mix ingredients. Perform related duties as assigned.

    TESTING
    Applicants who pass the application screening process will be notified and scheduled for a Written Test.
