    This position will be based out of our Oakland Office and serve the greater Bay Area region.

    This is an opportunity to work with an experienced team of professionalsPOSITION SUMMARY:
    The primary duties of the Engineer III
    • Resident Engineer/Structure Representative are technical oversight and contract administration of our construction projects including inspection, planning, scheduling and coordination of construction inspection, quality assurance inspections of bridge and transportation structure work on the project, including foundations, substructure and superstructure, coordination with contractor, supervising inspectors, surveyors and materials testers as well as documentation of the project progress and payment.
    Responsible for maintaining accurate daily record of construction site activity and produces required reports on progress, safety, quality, schedule and budget status. Coordinates with others for documentation for contractor progress pay estimates. Does calculations to support the technical aspects of the structure work including shoring, falsework and quantities.


    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


    Oversee construction projects for client in field office, studies, design and office services during constructionMonitoring of construction contractor progress, activities, use of approved materials, use of approved equipment and piping and schedule materials testingReview and respond to contractors submittals, RFIs, letters and evaluate contractors suggestions for minor changes to contract requirements; review contractors progress schedules, certificates and operations and maintenance manuals, review and process monthly progress payments, review NOPCs and provide recommendations, review material testing data, perform independent engineers estimate for Change orders, negotiate change orders, keep tracing logs for RFIs, submittals CCOs, and contingency balances, perform quantity takeoffs, read staking notes.

    Document construction progress through daily reports; conduct weekly progress meeting and prepare meeting summaries; maintain project files and prepare and process change orders.

    Prepare written documents (i.e.

    correspondence, proposals, reports, performance evaluations and other construction documentsInspect and review project to monitor compliance with the contract documents including building and safety codes, SWPPP requirements, environmental documents and other regulationsDocument compliance with the construction documents, contract requirements and shop drawing prepared by contractorVerify field dimension including vertical and horizontal field control for structuresOversee staff performing daily field inspectionsPrepare Daily diaries and maintains inspection recordsAbility to review submittals including shop drawings, product data, samples, test samples, QA plans submitted by the contractorAssist Resident Engineer with response to Request for Information from ContractorVerify compliance with applicable regulations controlling work including CAL/OSHA and SWPPPInspects construction progress which may include ensuring procedures and materials complyAbility to work independently.

    Ability to perform duties in the construction field office and effectively make decisions concerning construction work in progress and solving field problems.

    Perform constructability reviewsSKILLS/QUALIFICATIONSBS in Civil Engineering or related field.5-10 years experience in construction inspection as a Structure Representative.
    Licensed Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California requiredStrong verbal and written communication skills are required.
    Basic computer skills required (Microsoft Word, Excel).Caltrans experience, highly desired.
    Knowledge of Caltrans and Local Agency Standard Plans and Specifications and Greenbook.
    Ability to work independently.

    Ability to perform duties in the construction field office and effectively make decisions concerning construction work in progress and solving field problems.


    Experience in the following areas:
    foundations, pile driving, concrete pre-stressing, bridge deck construction, cast-in-place wall construction, falsework, and shoring.

    Physical agility to perform tasks requiring a full range of body movements including lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, stretching, twisting, reaching, balancing, squatting, climbing, crawling, kneeling, or assuming crouched positions; repetitive arm, hand, finger, wrist, leg or foot motion.

    The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

    Frequently use safety equipment such as a hard hat and safety vest; work in areas not well ventilated such as utility vaults; work outdoors or work on uneven ground or floor spaces; work at elevations above ground level.

    Must be able to work in all weather conditions and can work any day of the week both night and day.

    Available for after hour emergency response.
