Description

Job Summary:

Provides comprehensive nutritional care to patients and residents identified with special needs and/or those who meet nutritional risk criteria. Offers nutritional care through patient assessment and reassessment, patient and family education, interdisciplinary communication, nutritional plan of care development, and documentation of all interventions following policy and acceptable practice standards. Functions as a skilled clinician who delivers clinical care in a proficient and effective manner, utilizing appropriate technical and decision-making skills.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in food and nutrition or equivalent: Required
Master's Degree: Preferred
Experience as a Clinical Dietitian: Preferred
Dietetic internship or its equivalent: Preferred

Licenses/Certifications:

Registered Dietitian (RD) within 6 months of completion of residency program: Required

Facility Specific License/Certifications:

Hospital Fire and Life Safety (HLFS): Required

Essential Functions:

Performs assessment of patients to identify those at nutritional risk. Provides quality nutritional care by utilizing nutrition plans, facilitating appropriate meal patterns, monitoring nutritional intake, initiating suitable interventions, and offering nutritional education.
Responsible for the comprehensive initial nutritional assessment and ongoing reassessment of the patient's nutritional condition and stability, and determination of nutritional diagnosis. Also responsible for evaluating the patient's response to the implemented plan of care.
Sets appropriate patient care priorities, assigns personnel to patient care activities based on skills and abilities within their job description, scope of practice, and level of competency. Handles medical nutrition therapy administration safely and accurately, monitors, documents, and assesses patient response.
Acts as an educational resource for healthcare team members, including dietetic interns, patients, family members, and the community. Orients and instructs new professional, registered, assistive, and ancillary personnel on their job duties, assignments, and clinical activities. Provides educational opportunities to address the nutrition needs of patients, families, and significant others.
Responsible for direct data collection and assessment of the patient's nutritional condition and stability. Supervises indirect data collection performed by assigned personnel.
Performs any other job-related duties as assigned.

Organizational Requirements:
