- Provides consumer credit counseling and administers debt management services for members.
- Recovers loan payments that might otherwise have been lost due to members financial difficulties. This includes: interviewing member to accurately assess their financial situation and determining the level of counseling required (educational, preventive, or remedial); analyzing members' debts; assisting members to develop personal budgets; determining members' qualification for entry in the debt management program (DMP).
- Intervenes with creditors/collectors in complex or difficult situations such as cases involving foreclosures, bankruptcies, and garnishments.
- Resolves critical member problems (e.g., investigates why collector is pursuing member in DMP or mediates with persistent collection agencies and or creditors).
- Experience that demonstrates basic knowledge and skill in conducting interviews, collection of debts, and or analyzing financial circumstances which may involve an exposure to granting credit
- Interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills that demonstrate the ability to convey information effectively
- Effective telephone skills
- Ability to apply basic mathematical formulae and work accurately with numbers
- Tact, diplomacy and persuasiveness to deal with members and creditors on financial matters, often in difficult circumstances
- Knowledge of credit and collection practices and procedures
- Familiarity with principles of financial budgeting
