    GENERAL SUMMARY:

    The Senior Tax Analyst oversees and coordinates federal and state tax compliance and post-issuance bond compliance for Bryan Health and affiliates.

    Plays a key role during tax preparation by gathering tax related information for reporting purposes from various financial sources across the organization.

    Conducts research of new and existing regulations and coordinates process improvements to insure compliance.

    Principal Job Functions

    *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
    *Coordinates the preparation of tax returns in compliance with laws and internal procedures for entities within the Bryan Health System including Forms 990, 990-T, 1120, 1065, state income tax returns, sales and use tax returns and other tax and informational returns.
    *Prepares tax provisions calculations for year-end audits.
    *Identifies and proposes resolutions and best practices to specific Bryan Health tax issues.
    *Serves as primary contact for tax-related training and education for Bryan Health employees who participate in the tax return preparation process.
    *Serves as key resource person for all tax and private business use related questions.
    *Serves as key resource person for meeting IRS Section 501(r) requirements.
    *Preparation of transfer pricing documentation to substantiate transfer pricing positions taken.
    *Assistant with transfer pricing aspects of tax authority queries or formal audits.
    *Participates in all internal/external audits related to federal tax and post-issuance bond compliance; serves as main contact to coordinate data collection and distribution.
    *Maintains a post-issuance compliance database which quantifies private business use for tax-exempt bonds for annual reporting to the IRS.
    *Prepares Community Benefit Information for the medical centers and the Health System for reporting to the IRS and the public.
    *Provides accounting for tax-exempt bonds, and bond swaps, for financial reporting and for the year-end audit.
    *Prepares responses to inquiries and notices, and completes questionnaires and surveys from regulatory bodies including, but not limited to, the IRS.
    *Monitors new developments, best practices and changes occurring in taxation (i.e. laws, regulations, etc.) and tax-exempt bond compliance for any issues that may impact the tax exempt status of Bryan Health and affiliates.
    *Reviews organizational contracts and tracks compliance with regard to private business use and unrelated business income.
    *Writes and maintains procedures to meet IRS tax and post-issuance bond compliance requirements.
    Advances work knowledge by participating in webinars, continuing education in-services, reading periodical/literature and seeking ongoing development opportunities.
    Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

    Strong leadership, organization, project management and analytical skills.
    Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
    Knowledge of tax-exempt bond post-issuance requirements under IRS regulations.
    Knowledge of accepted accounting theory, practice and auditing.
    Knowledge of quality improvement, budgetary and financial methods and practices.
    Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.
    Skill in assisting customers in a patient and appropriate manner with questions and concerns.
    Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
    Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.
    Ability to analyze discrepancies/problems, interpret regulations and make recommendations in accordance with established precedent or guidelines.
    Ability to develop written policies and procedures.
    Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.
    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel, medical staff, volunteer and ancillary departments.
    Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and work as a team member.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
    Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required. Master's degree or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification preferred. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in income tax return preparation required. Past experience with CPA firm preferred. Additional experience in a tax exempt integrated healthcare system preferred.
