Position Summary
Concord Preparatory School seeks a compassionate, highly qualified, and student-centered School Counselor to join our Student Support Services Department.
The School Counselor plays a vital role in promoting the academic success, emotional well-being, and personal growth of students in grades 6 through 12.
This position requires an individual who is deeply committed to student development and who upholds the highest standards of professionalism, ethical practice, and confidentiality.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience in school-based counseling, a strong understanding of adolescent development, and comprehensive knowledge of the U.S.
college admissions process.Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Student Counseling and Support
Provide individual and group counseling to address academic, emotional, social, and behavioral concerns.
Develop and implement school-wide programs that promote mental health awareness, resilience, and positive peer relationships.
Identify and support students facing challenges that affect academic performance or well-being, coordinating with teachers, administrators, and parents to create appropriate interventions.
Maintain accurate and confidential student counseling records in accordance with legal and ethical standards.Academic and Developmental Guidance
Support students in setting academic goals, selecting courses, and developing effective study habits.
Monitor student progress and collaborate with faculty to ensure consistent academic support.
Assist students in developing organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills essential for success.
College and Career Counseling
Guide students through the college planning and application process, including advising on course selection, testing timelines, essay preparation, and recommendation letters.
Conduct parent and student workshops on college readiness, application strategy, and postsecondary planning.
Maintain expertise in U.S. higher education trends, including selective admissions practices and international student considerations.
Collaboration and Community Engagement
Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to ensure a supportive and inclusive school environment.
Serve as a resource for faculty on student wellness, classroom dynamics, and social-emotional learning.
Refer students and families to outside mental health professionals or community resources when necessary.
Participate actively in school committees, professional development sessions, and community events.
Qualifications and Requirements
Master's degree in School Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Education, or a closely related field required.
Current state certification or licensure in school counseling (preferred).
Minimum of three years of experience in a U.S. high school or an educational institution, preferably at a private high school or college-preparatory school.
Demonstrated expertise in U.S.
college counseling, including comprehensive knowledge of the American high school–to–university application process (e.g., Common App, UC system, standardized testing, recommendation letters, and transcript preparation).
Thorough understanding of adolescent development, counseling principles, and crisis intervention strategies.Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, faculty, and administrators.
Strong organizational skills and sound professional judgment in managing confidential matters.
