    PATIENT CARE
    Perform comprehensive patient assessment and review of the patient's medical record to
    recommend and provide clinically indicated therapy


    Performance Criteria:
    Reviews the patient's medical record for patient history, test results and other pertinent information.
    Utilizes methods of inspection, auscultation, percussion and/ or palpation to determine respiratory care
    Communicates significant findings, actions taken and care recommendations with the treatment team in
    a timely fashion.
    Documents assessment findings and any actions taken in the patient's medical record.
    Perform routine respiratory therapy procedures that include, but are not limited to, administration
    equipment set up for the administration of aerosolized
    pharmaceuticals; administration of aerosol

    • and heated humidification therapies and performance
    of various modalities of chest physiotherapy


    Performance Criteria:
    Verifies there is an active MD order for the therapy or procedure as required
    Obtains the appropriate equipment and devices to render care with consideration given to patient care
    Performs routine patient assessment to ensure the appropriate care is being delivered to the right patient

    Graduation from an Associate Degree program in Respiratory Therapy approved by the New York State Board of Education or a program determined equivalent in accordance with the Commissioner of the State Board of Education's regulations; Possession of a current license to practice as a Respiratory Therapist in the State of New York; Possession of current registration as a Respiratory Therapist issued by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
