    Description

    Job Description Summary

    As a Specialist in the Aerospace Research Structures and Analysis Methods Lab, you will support research and development in structural design and analysis for various aerospace applications. The specialist will assist in CAD generation and manipulation, finite element meshing, and model pre-processing for FEA and/or CFD models. Additionally, you will be responsible for in-house tools and workflows to deliver CAD and meshes following design standards.

    Roles and Responsibilities:

    • Develop FEA meshes for complex geometries, utilizing commercial and/or in-house tools.
    • Create and update 3D CAD geometries based on finite element analysis modeling requirements.
    • Support design and analysis tasks using proprietary and commercial FEA solvers, and databases.
    • Own modeling workflows for CAD, meshing, and analysis steps.
    • Collaborate with project team and business counterparts to meet deliverables.
    • Participate in project and technical reviews, delivering presentations and reports.
    • Provide expertise to tackle technical challenges and foster a collaborative team environment.

    Required Qualifications:

    • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field with at least 3 years' experience in finite element meshing and CAD.
    • Experience with meshing and FEA tools like Altair Hypermesh, Ansys, etc.
    • Proficiency in parametric, feature-based geometric modeling, using commercial CAD packages.
    • Knowledge of programming languages such as Python.
    • Strong analytical skills, ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
    • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
    • Willingness to work at the Niskayuna, NY office and ability to acquire and maintain US Government Security Clearance.

    Desired Characteristics:

    • Experience in design and optimization for additive manufacturing.
    • Proficiency in Ansys Workbench scripting and optimization.
    • Experience with structural optimization codes and simulations.
    • Knowledge of product design constraints and manufacturing processes.

    The base salary range for this role is $60,000 - $110,000 annually, with additional bonuses based on qualifications and performance.
