Basic Job Functions

The Marine Electrician will be a vital part of the vessel production assembly team. The Marine Electrician's area of focus will be the installation of all vessels related electrical system components, to include wiring/cables, power generation components, control panels, junction boxes, etc. The Marine Electrician will also perform system start-up and functional testing of electrical systems and troubleshoot/repair system issues.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

• All Levels:
  • Remove, install, and repair electrical equipment and fixtures.
  • Remove, install diverse types of cable tray systems.
  • Troubleshoot motor and control systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance on electrical wiring and systems.
  • Build control panels.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools.
  • Ability to work in limited spaces.
  • Own set of tools required for the job.
  • Understand how to use a multi-meter.
  • Understand proper safety and abide by all quality rules instructed.
• Level III: Often supports or leads peer training and knowledge sharing.
• Level IV: Serves as a subject matter expert for training and troubleshooting.

Experience

• All Levels:
  • Previous experience in marine electrical installation.
  • Familiarity with electrical schematics and manuals.
  • Familiarity with electrical equipment.
• Base: 0 to 1 year
• Level I: 1 to 2 years
• Level II: 2 to 3 years
• Level III: 4 to 5 years
• Level IV: 5+ plus years

Education

• High School Diploma or GED

Required Skills

• All Levels:
  • Ability to resolve problems using established procedures and policies and common sense.
  • Ability to create solutions, procedures and policies while working with various departments.
  • Strong communication skills and effective at building relationships at all levels.
  • Prior experience in a small organization, demonstrating abilities with multiple objectives and multitasking efforts.

  • Familiar with 12- and 24-volt systems
• Level I: Basic electrical knowledge of low voltage systems, familiar with electrical schematics and drawings, may need assistance with drawing interpretations, work is supervised and checked.
• Level II: Growing Marine electrician knowledge and background, ability to work independently 50% of the time, ability to read drawings and correctly interpret them. Developing skills for trouble shooting. Growing professionalism, fully reliable and able to share knowledge with peers.
• Level III: Mature Marine Electrician knowledge and background, works independently 75% of the time, supports others reading and interpretation of drawings. Experienced trouble shooter. Often supports or leads peer training and knowledge sharing.
• Level IV: Extensive Marine Electrician knowledge and background, fully independent, serves as a back up to the functional lead or supervisor as needed, serves as a subject matter expert for training and trouble shooting.

Working Conditions

• Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment where exposure to moving mechanical parts, sharp cutting tools, dust, fumes and airborne particles, temperature extremes and elevated noise level.
• Employees must regularly lift and or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and or move more than 75 pounds.
• While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, stoop, kneel, climb, crouch, talk and hear.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to eye safety glasses, hearing protection and work boots.

Pay Rates:
Marine Electrician IV $31.55 per hour
Marine Electrician III $28.91 per hour
Marine Electrician II $27.13 per hour
Marine Electrician I $25.36 per hour
Marine Electrician $22.41 per hour

The levels of this position are differentiated by increasing degrees of responsibilities, years of experience, quality of work, and will be determined upon interview evaluation. Pay rates are fixed for each job level.
