    Position Summary:

    The UAA Learning Commons is seeking applications for a full-time STEM Program Director to support the academic development and educational goals of all UAA students through peer-to-peer tutor programming. The successful candidate will be energetic, passionate, innovative, and emanate an attitude of care. The Program Director will be responsible for leading the STEM related peer-to-peer support programs of the Learning Commons and supervising a team of undergraduate peer educators in collaboration with designated faculty liaisons.

    This position will work collaboratively with all of the Learning Commons' program directors and other UAA academic and instructional support staff to develop and enhance a cohesive set of integrated support services that meet the unique needs of students and faculty for each tutoring area. In collaboration with the Learning Commons Executive Director, the Program Director will develop policies and procedures, recruit, hire, and train peer educators (Math Tutors, Science Tutors, Nursing Tutors, Engineering Tutors and other STEM student support programs as needed), provide mentorship for peer educators, and develop, coordinate, and consult on the ongoing professional development of peer educators.

    Recruits and coordinates content area experts outside of the department to support training of peer educators in relevant topics when needed. Assists with continual researching of best practices for peer educator and academic support programs. Tracks student participants to determine program outcomes and retention goals. Works with Learning Commons Executive Director to develop budgets. Participates in professional development activities and serves on campus or university-wide committees, as requested.

    To thrive in this role, a successful candidate will have a passion for working with student workers and helping UAA students to progress toward their individual academic goals as they relate to STEM courses and programs. A successful candidate must communicate well and collaborate well with the rest of the Learning Commons team.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree in related field (Math, Science, Technology, Engineering, or STEM Education) AND two plus years of demonstrated relevant experience.

    Position Details:

    This position is located on the University campus in Anchorage. This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 79, based on education and experience.
