- Develops and maintains base maps and performs associated mapping functions using geographic information system (GIS) software and databases; analyzes and edits geographic data; performs GIS computerized mapping functions; and provides technical services and support.
- Supports a wide array of GIS data analyses, mapping, and the related collection, reduction, creation, and manipulation of web-based applications and data. Applies working knowledge of geographic principles, cartography, geoprocessing and spatial analysis, database management and GIS software technology.
- Creation and maintenance of geospatial information referenced by City staff and the public through published applications. Information sources may include ordinances, staff reports, board decisions, policy changes, or other inputs.
- Illustrate possible changes to existing City composition through creation of new database products derived from the conceptual data of proposed development or code amendments. Compare current statutory/code, spatial/non-spatial requirements against proposed spatial/non-spatial amendments.
- Utilize publishing software to manipulate, create, and produce digital photos illustrating planning requirements.
- Create Web Map Apps/Feature Class for editing GIS data and Viewing stats. Introduce additional content and features for user community based on feedback.
- Maintain or create geographic layers to be used by integrated applications through scheduled batch processes. Understand work flows and schema design/layout for export and reporting.
- Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree;

NATURE OF WORK:
Performs professional, technical, and analytical work in the development of geographic information system (GIS) processes and products, serving as the primary GIS resource for the city's Economic Development department. An employee in this position provides project management, meets with clients to understand needs, establishes specifications, researches methods, develops and implements the appropriate GIS solutions. Work requires independent judgement and ability to work both alone or as a member of a team. Work is reviewed through conferences on applications, operational problems, technical support ability and client feedback.
Starting Salary:
GIS Applications Developer I: $27.46 to $35.01 per hour, depending on qualifications.
GIS Applications Developer II: $28.06 to $37.18 per hour, depending on qualifications.
GIS Applications Developer III: $30.59 to $40.53 per hour, depending on qualifications. Examples of Duties
GIS Applications Developer I: Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Computer Science, or related field plus one year experience working with a Geographic Information System in planning, public safety, Information Technology or public works, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must have good verbal and writing skills. Proficiency in reading and interpreting a wide variety documents, such as ordinances, subdivision maps, site plans, legal descriptions and plats is desirable. Experience maintaining computerized land records is a plus. Criminal background check required.
GIS Applications Developer II: Same as GIS Applications Developer I. plus three years of experience working with a Geographic Information System in planning, public safety, Information Technology or public works required, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must have good verbal and writing skills. Experience writing SQL scripts and developing ArcGIS Online web applications required. Must be able to function as a lead or sole developer for small and medium scale projects.
GIS Applications Developer III: Same as GIS Applications Developer II, plus five years of experience working with a Geographic Information System in planning, public safety, Information Technology or public works, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must have good verbal and writing skills. Experience creating data automation scripts & data models and be able to administer an ArcSDE environment required.Must be able to lead a development team for large scale projects.
