    This is a great growth opportunity for a tax professional that is looking for a dynamic, collaborative and challenging work environment. This person will support the Senior Director of Tax and other department professionals in carrying out duties related to accomplishing team goals and responsibilities with an emphasis on tax compliance, particularly preparation of federal consolidated and state income tax returns, fixed assets and process improvements. This role also supports the tax accounting and the tax provision process. The right candidate will be able to develop tax expertise in a variety of technical areas and identify and develop opportunities to create time and cost efficiencies and increase the accuracy of work products.
    • Assist in the preparation of the Belk, Inc. and subsidiaries federal consolidated return and prepares complex state income/franchise returns and extensions while identifying procedural/process changes to drive efficiency and reduce costs
    • Prepares corporate estimated income tax calculations and recommend necessary payments as required
    • Identifies the flow of necessary information in the annual provision process and prepares complex book/tax differences while identifying process improvements
    • Collaborate in planning projects as assigned
    • Assist in IRS and state examination process as assigned and correspond with tax authorities concerning disputes
    • Keep current with state of the art automation capabilities and implementation opportunities in the department. Educates the department on changes in hardware, software, systems and procedures
    • Develop technical proficiency in the following areas: Consolidated returns; Multi-state issues and Fixed Asset tax accounting
    • Cross-train in other tax areas within the tax department and complete assigned tasks
    • Handle miscellaneous compliance tasks as required including: Respond to tax notices; Prepare tax account reconciliations and Prepare/maintain tax memos required under SOX controls
    • Effectively communicate status of projects in process with management and work with other professionals both in and outside the department and company.

    Education / Experience Requirements:

    • B.S. in Accounting/Tax or related business field with at least 1 year in a public and/or private tax department.

    Knowledge / Skills:

    • 1-3 years corporate tax experience, retail and/or Big 4 accounting firm experience preferred.
    • CPA or equivalent degree in taxation, or law degree with tax emphasis or equivalent experience.
    • Obtain required CPE/education relating to assigned area
    • Proven experience making sound decisions with minimal supervision
    • Effectively organize workload, set priorities and manage time accordingly while being flexible and adaptable to daily changes
    • Creative, highly analytic and detail oriented with strong problem-solving skills
    • Strong software skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access
    • Excellent research and communication (oral and written) skills
