Job Responsibilities

Plan, develop, implement and evaluate strategies for promoting and supporting breastfeeding among the high risk, low income population; especially prenatal/breastfeeding women and infants within the 10 counties of district 8-1.

• Develops long and short term goals for breastfeeding promotion and supports activities for the district.
• Implements breastfeeding promotion and supports plans, to include staff development, community networks and services to clients.
• Manages the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program
• Works closely with the supervisor to evaluate the effectiveness of breastfeeding program activities.
• Creates and maintains a high performance environment characterized by positive leadership and a strong team orientation.
• Maintains responsibility for personal professional continuing education to enable application of current practice.

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of an undergraduate degree in dietetics, nursing, community health nutrition, health education, at a four year college or university AND a minimum of one year of experience providing breastfeeding education, lactation counseling and assessments, and peer counselor supervision in a hospital or community health setting.

Preferred Qualifications:
Licensure/Certification: Registered Dietitian; Registered Professional Nurse; Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or current status as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLS) or Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC). Two years of professional experience in the provision of nutrition or nursing services, one which was in a community health setting.
