- Learn and become proficient with in vivo technical procedures such as injections and other substance administration procedures, blood draw techniques, in vivo imaging, health observations and other biological data collections.

- Diligently maintain breeding records and production metrics for researcher colonies and CM stock mouse production colonies.
- Maintain appropriate data requested by the researcher.
- Comprehensive understanding of IACUC protocols covering work performed by TRMS, with strict adherence to compliance and confirmation of approved activities.
- Communicate feedback to supervisor on suggestions for amendments needed on protocols.
- Participate in biohazard training and reading of IBC protocols as applicable to study assignments

- Associate's degree in Biology or related field.
- 1+ years' experience of rodent handling in research setting.
- Work Experience can be substituted for education: 4+ years' experience in biological science laboratory using rodent models.
- AALAS certification at the ALAT or higher level is required, and persons hired for this position should continue to pursue this certification as soon as possible once eligible, until achieved.
- Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to new systems and techniques.
- Ability to learn advanced technical procedures in rodents.
- Understanding of laboratory rodent housing, radiation safety, biohazard containment, rodent pathogens, and risk reduction measures.
- Experience with performing sterile procedures to avoid contamination of test and control articles, test systems, and/or other animal-based aspects of the experimental design.
- Experience with rodent colony maintenance.
- Excellent communication skills and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a collaborative team-oriented environment.

The Translational Research Model Services (TRMS) Specialist I works in the service arm of the Comparative Medicine (CM) Shared Resource.
They are responsible for performing standard technical procedures and data collection for animal studies performed for Fred Hutch researchers and external customers.
The Specialist I will also support maintenance of stock rodent colonies and colonies for FH labs. This position requires independence and self-motivation. The Specialist I is expected to continue to acquire skills and knowledge to perform more advanced work through training.

A TRMS Specialist I works independently but under direct supervision of the TRMS Core Manager within the Comparative Medicine (CM) Shared Resource.
