    Job Title Technician, Preventive Maintenance Fleet (Re-advertised) Job Description

    GTCC owns and maintains a fleet of 100+ vehicles including passenger vehicles, Police cars, maintenance vehicles and golf carts.

    The person in this position will assist the lead Fleet Service Technician with performing routine vehicle maintenance, troubleshooting problems, refueling/cleaning vehicles, ordering parts, etc.

    Mid Salary Duties/Functions


    • Perform routine preventive maintenance on fleet vehicles (oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, wheel alignment, etc.)
    • Assist lead technician in diagnostics and repairs of fleet vehicles
    • Refuel loaner fleet vehicles
    • Wash, vacuum, and sanitize loaner fleet vehicles
    • Log maintenance records into fleet maintenance software
    • Assist in delivery and pick-up of fleet vehicles being outsourced for repairs or service
    • Order parts and supplies
    • Pick up parts and supplies from non-delivery venders
    • Road test vehicles
    • Performs all duties as assigned by supervisor.
    • Assists with other facility work as directed by supervisor.
    • Adheres to established work schedule.
    • Completes assignments in a professional, safe and timely manner.
    • Demonstrates and models the College's employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility and teamwork.
    • Participates in job related enrichment seminars, workshops, and in-service training.
    Difficult Challenges


    • Troubleshooting and repair of vehicle motor, transmission, electrical and brake issues.

    Education Required


    • High school diploma or GED certificate
    • Successful completion of at least one semester of a Community College 2-year Automotive Program in good standing.
    Education Preferred


    • Associate degree in Automotive Technology or certificate in automotive maintenance.
    • Successful completion of GTCC class TRN 110 (Intro to Auto Systems Technology) or equivalent lift safety training and experience.
    • ASE G1 certification
    • CDL Class A license
    Experience Required


    • Demonstrable experience in vehicle maintenance and repair - does not require experience in a licensed shop but examples of personal experience in basic vehicular maintenance typical of a person who desires to be a professional mechanic.
    Experience Preferred


    • One year of experience working as a general service technician in a vehicle repair facility.
    KSA Required


    • Basic understanding of automotive maintenance.
    • Fundamental knowledge of safety practices.
    • Knowledge of basic principles of personal computer use.
    • Skilled in the operation of passenger cars, light trucks, and vans.
    • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationship with co-workers, faculty, staff, students, and the general public.
    • Ability to lift and carry heavy bulky objects up to fifty pounds.
    • Ability to work at times other than scheduled hours.
    • Ability to work in inclement weather, i.e., snow removal, etc.
    • Ability to work well independently and exercise sound judgment in prioritizing tasks in a changing environment.
    • Ability to operate as a part of a trained emergency response team at a moment's notice.
    KSA Preferred


    • Basic understanding of automotive troubleshooting and diagnostic techniques.
    Department/Job Specific Requirements


    • Adhere to established PM guidelines and procedures of GTCC Fleet Maintenance Department
    • Maintain a safe, organized, and clean working environment
    • Execute effective communication with drivers of vehicles and all other GTCC employees
    • Maintain a safe speed when utilizing golf carts on campus
    • Ability to drive a manual transmission vehicle
    • Required OSHA/Safety training to include but not limited to the following: Chemical Safety (HazCom/Hazmat) ; Crane/Lift/Hoist Safety; Emergency Equipment-incl. fire extinguishers; First Aid; Flammable & Combustible Storage & Handling; Forklift/Industrial Vehicle Safety; Hand and Power Tools; LP Gas Storage and Handling; Noise and Hearing Conservation; Reporting Requirements.
    • Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
    • Position is subject to background and credit checks.
    • Upon employment and within first 30 days of hire, must complete the following college HR training matrix but not limited to: Discrimination & Anti-Harassment; Personal Information Protection (PIP); Ethics, and "Shooter on Campus." Annual refreshers are required thereafter.
    Physical Demands


    • Physical Activity: Work requires bending, squatting, crawling, walking and standing for extended times.
    • Environmental Hazard(s): Frequent (30% - 70%) exposure to hazardous chemicals, filth, fumes, adverse weather, or personal health and safety risks.
    • Lifting: Work requires carrying objects or loads that weigh between 20 and 50 pounds.
