    Description

    We are seeking skilled and experienced Progressive Care Unit RNs for a travel nurse position in Louisville, Kentucky. The ideal candidate will have at least 1-2 years of recent acute care experience.

    The PCU Travel Nurse will provide high-quality patient care to individuals who require close monitoring and frequent assessment but are stable enough to be cared for outside the ICU. This includes utilizing computer equipment to track cardiac and other vital signs, detecting any changes that may indicate a need for intervention.

    Progressive Care Unit RNs play a critical role in caring for patients who receive complex medications through IV lines that may need to be adjusted or titrated. In some cases, the PCU RN may also be referred to as a step-down nurse, with the PCU known by various names such as cardiac stepdown, medical stepdown, neuro stepdown, surgical stepdown, and ER holding.

    • Provide basic bedside care, including stabilizing critical cardiac patients.
    • Change dressings, insert catheters, and start IVs as needed.
    • Prepare, administer, and record prescribed medication, reporting any adverse reactions to treatment.
    • Monitor and adjust specialized equipment used on patients, interpreting and recording electronic displays.
    • Take corrective action when information from monitoring equipment indicates adverse symptomatology.

    PCU Travel Nurses should be able to stand and walk for extended periods, bend, lean, and stoop without difficulty. They should also be able to lift up to 20 pounds easily, although moving or lifting patients may occasionally require lifting up to 50 pounds.

    Given the fast-paced environment, Progressive Care Unit RNs must possess good coping skills and be able to relate effectively to people of all ages and backgrounds.

    Requirements:

    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
    • NIH (National Institutes of Health) certification
    • Minimum 2 years of experience

    Estimated Salary: $120,000 - $150,000 per year
