    WHAT IS IT LIKE TO WORK FOR OUR TEAM?
    The Accounting Technician I serves a key role in the Finance Department working in a fast-paced, open-office environment that experiences frequent interruptions all while providing exceptional customer service. You will interact with various departments and divisions all throughout CBJ, as well as with CBJ's vendors. The Accounts Payable Office has a heavy emphasis on electronic document sharing and storage, learning new processes and modernizing procedures with new technology. The Finance Department is a dynamic and evolving environment that will require your innovative thinking, willingness to adapt quickly, and flexible mindset.     WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
    This position typically works Monday through Friday from 8am - 4:30pm with a one-hour lunch and two 15-minute breaks. The office for this position is located on the 3rd floor of the Municipal Way Building, next to City Hall. Opportunity for a hybrid teleworking schedule would be available upon successful completion of the probationary period.
    Typical Responsibilities

    DESCRIPTION OF WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
    Under the general supervision of the Accounts Payable Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for performing a variety of technical accounting practices and review functions in the Accounts Payable Office.

    Typical responsibilities include the following:
    • Retrieves, opens, date stamp and distributes interoffice and U S. mail daily.
    • Reconciles vendor statements for payments made and passes on received invoices to city staff electronically.
    • Checks invoices received from city departments for purchase order numbers, proper payment approval, and correct information.
    • Processes weekly check runs including auditing the selection of invoices, printing of checks, check registers, ACH payments and electronic reports.
    • Uploads weekly payment information online to CBJ's banking site.
    • Voids checks and processes invoice cancellations as needed.
    • Notifies city departments and/or purchasing if a limited purchase order or purchase order does not have the required funds to pay the approved invoice.
    • Maintains a working file of invoices needing approval. Enters invoices into the Accounts Payable subsystem. Entry includes checking invoice remit addresses with the address in the system and making necessary corrections with appropriate staff.
    • Handles basic and complex inquiries from departments including Bartlett Regional Hospital and Juneau School District staff and CBJ vendors about individual vendor payments for all accounts. This includes explaining the nature or justification for making payments, answering questions about payments or charges, explaining a request for stop payment, and special handling request.
    • Scans completed check runs to shared drives for staff access and maintains physical paper files.
    • Receives requests from auditors to pull A/P files and other documents needed to complete annual financial audit.
    Minimum Qualifications

    Education:
    High school diploma or the equivalent.
    Experience:
    Six (6) months of any combination of job-related post-secondary education and clerical or customer service experience in a job-related area.
    Post-secondary Credit:
    Courses will be credited based on 3 semester/4 quarter hours= 1 month of experience.
