    Job Description:

    Extraction and Analysis of Residue Samples.
    Validate methods used for sample analysis. Submit written methods and associated supporting data to study sponsor. Validated methods may become enforcement methods if significant changes from original method are required.
    Complete extraction and preparation of residue samples for analysis using validated methods.

    Analyze samples using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and occasionally using gas chromatography (GC) and with various detection systems, primarily triple quadrupole or Orbitrap mass spectrometry.

    Perform and document activities in compliance with EPA Good Laboratory Practice regulations and laboratory standard operating procedures.


    Method Evaluation and Development
    Review literature for changes/improvements in preparative/analytical procedures. Review literature to assess novel approaches when developing methods for matrices not amenable to analysis with currently available methods/processes.

    Evaluate analytical methods and modify as necessary to achieve acceptable method performance for difficult matrices i.e., dried herbs, oils, nutmeats, processed seed meal, etc.

    Develop and/or improve methods for extraction and analysis of pesticides in various crop matrices.
    Optimize analytical instrument parameters to achieve acceptable, reliable performance for the analysis of multiple analytes.
    Support other analysts in their work to improve and develop methods.


    Data Review and Report Preparation.
    Operate computer based automated data collection systems for data acquisition, processing, and quantitation.
    Conduct quality control review of data generated by other analysts for compliance with laboratory acceptance criteria.

    Write final reports and collect documentation required for Quality Assurance review. Respond to QA findings.
    Review current laboratory standard operating procedures.
    Draft laboratory standard operating procedures for new equipment or procedures brought into the laboratory.


    Training
    Train new employees on laboratory standard operating procedures.
    Train other analysts on proper instrument use and maintenance.
    Instruct other analysts in conduct of modified methods.


    General Duties
    Conduct routine instrument cleaning, maintenance, and basic instrument troubleshooting. Contact contracted service providers for instrument repairs and maintenance. Document required repairs and service.
    Prepare and make available to lab personnel notes on proper instrument use and maintenance.
    General lab maintenance and cleaning.
    Participate in required training activities.
    Other duties as assigned.


    Expected Salary:
    Commersurate with Experience


    Minimum Requirements:

    a bachelor's degree in chemistry or a closely related field and seven years of relevant experience; or a master's degree in chemistry or a closely related field and five years of relevant experience; or Doctoral degree in chemistry or a closely related field and two years of relevant experience.


    Preferred Qualifications:
    Knowledge of chemistry with an emphasis on analytical chemistry.
    Experience with procedures and techniques required for trace level residue analysis of pesticides.
    Knowledge and experience in instrumental analysis techniques such as gas chromatography (GC), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
    Knowledge and experience using triple quadrupole and high resolution mass spectrometers.
    Knowledge of computer software used for data processing.
    Good Laboratory Practice compliance training and experience working under GLP regulations.
