    Description

Hello, we're Metro Metro is dedicated to shaping a better future for the greater Portland region. The work the people of Metro do every day benefits the lives of the people who live here, today, and tomorrow.

Do you enjoy collaborating with and leading teams that involve stakeholders across an agency, cross‑department teams and contractors? Do you thrive in managing business process improvements and technical projects? Do you take pride in managing projects to successful completion?

The Office of the COO is seeking an ERP Deputy Project Manager to support Metro's enterprise resource planning (ERP) modernization initiative. This role provides a critical coordination and delivery support function for one of Metro's largest and most complex technology transformations, impacting finance, human resources, payroll, procurement, and operational systems across the organization.

A successful individual in this role proactively manages project deadlines, and drives projects at a pace that will energize the team, assuring overall project continuity and efficiency. This is a unique opportunity to work on a large‑scale, high‑visibility implementation while building deep experience in enterprise systems, organizational change, and public‑sector technology delivery.

    Responsibilities

    • Collect, analyze and summarize information and trends as needed to prepare project status reports.
    • Set and track project milestones, flag concerns, and realign schedules and expectations as needed.
    • Coordinate and support day‑to‑day ERP project activities, including work planning, task tracking, dependencies, and milestones.
    • Manage cross‑functional projects and teams by aligning business objectives with value‑add project delivery.
    • Support system design, configuration, testing, and deployment activities across ERP modules.
    • Track and communicate risks, issues, and decisions; assist with developing mitigation strategies and follow‑up actions.
    • Lead testing, troubleshooting, and resolution of ERP system issues, including production problems.
    • Develop and maintain project documentation, system artifacts, and implementation materials.
    • Establish and coordinate work based on identified system requirements.
    • Provide individual and group instruction to users related to system functionality and changes.
    • Support evaluation of business processes to align ERP functionality with Metro's operational needs.
    • Participate in meetings, workshops, and governance forums related to ERP delivery and readiness.

    Attributes for success

    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
    • Clear, effective written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to translate technical concepts for non‑technical audiences.
    • Comfort working in complex, cross‑functional environments.
    • Collaborative mindset with a strong customer‑service orientation.
    • Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and follow through to resolution.
    • Openness to change and adaptability in a fast‑moving project environment.
    • Attention to detail and commitment to quality and accountability.

    DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

At Metro, we strive to cultivate diversity, advance equity, and practice inclusion in all of its work. This means attracting and empowering a workforce that is inclusive of a broad range of human qualities. Workplace diversity is both a moral imperative and a business strength, essential to providing quality support and services to our region. Metro's goal is to hire, develop and retain highly skilled and talented individuals across all departments and programs who best reflect the diversity of our community.

    TO QUALIFY

We will consider any combination of relevant work experience, volunteering, education, and transferable skills as qualifying unless an item or section is labeled required. Please be clear and specific in your application materials on how your background is relevant.

This position is based at the Metro Regional Center (MRC) and is expected to work onsite at MRC as well as at Metro's external venues throughout the Portland metropolitan area.
